The other pole: your feet I joke that I have a healthy cranium and foot fetish. These are the two major poles of the body with some interesting polarity I just realized… -cranium receives the sun and starts all the yang meridian lines, but has no real direct contact with our environment -conversely, the feet contact the earth directly, receive our weight, and are the beginning of all the yin lines Anyhow, here at the foot today, I have illustrated the end of the #bladdermeridian and the beginning of the #kidneymeridian Also pictured here are the #fascial planes on each side: #deepfrontline and #superficialbackline I have so many thoughts on this, but before any presumptions, I want to get to the other connecting lines of the feet to see what they have to say. The Superficial Back Line! 
🔘This first photo is from the Anatomy Trains text. It shows how the gluteal muscles are not actually part of the superficial back line, the line of fascia that runs from the forehead to the soles of the feet. They rest on top of it! I think this shows why people can develop tension in the back and hamstrings and still have stretched out, inactive glutes that don’t really do their job. 
🔘To create a strong plank as in the elbow lever (check out my successful, and slightly failed attempts), mechanical tension between the back and hamstrings has to be high. Think about lifting and arching the mid-back and engaging the hamstrings. The glutes WILL come into play and help tie everything together. If they don’t, you’ll stay in a slightly hinged position.

Single Arm Planche? Plank? I don’t know what to call this, but it’s a trick I stole from my old days of burlesque, only I’m focusing on getting more into the horizontal plane. It’s not obvious, but one arm is bent and the elbow is tucked into my hip. I like to tell folks, "elbow yourself in the ovary!" The other hand is taking about 10-30% of bodyweight, depending on how stable I am. It wasn’t until I really visualized the superficial back-line and connected my spinal erectors to my hamstrings that I was able to get adequate glute activation to hold the plank together. If your glutes aren’t contracting, you’ll never get this one.
