Time To Get Controversial: Fusions (Part 2)
Continuing on, the next part of this post chain is the mid-tier level fusions.
Mid-Tier
15. Malachite
They’re really bad for each other, but Malachite’s design is still pretty cool. Her fusion also gave the Crystal Gems the runaround for a little while and had a lasting character impact on both Jasper and Lapis. It’s too bad that 70% of her screentime was her base Gems internally fighting each other at the bottom of the ocean, though.
14. Fluorite
This polyamorous caterpillar is the nice grandma of the show, and she’s wonderful. Will she ever meet that lucky Gem #7? The world may never know.
13. Rhodonite
A Ruby/Pearl fusion is a pretty neat combination, and I’ve got a lot of questions about Rhodonite. Do the Ruby and Pearl love each other? If they do, why is Rhodonite’s appearance closer to a generic fusion than a single form like Garnet? Will they finally be able to chill out in Little Homeworld? We may never know.
12. Sugilite
Spider Mom gets crazy, but she means well. I’m assuming the reason we hadn’t seen her for nearly the entire show is that they couldn’t afford Nicki Minaj more often. “Strong In The Real Way” is still a killer early song that no one remembers though, and Pearl fighting an out-of-control Sugilite was some good stuff.
11. Bluebird Azurite
Just look at this little gremlin bastard. Bluebird was everything I was hoping for in an episode and a fusion, and if she’s not back at least by the finale I’m rioting.
10. Obsidian
Obsidian only has one purpose, to kick ass. But DAMN does she do it well. I don’t think we’ll see Obsidian in action again (it took 6 years of buildup to debut this fusion which can’t be emulated by a 10 episode limited series). If we didn’t only get a few minutes of her, she would have been higher on the list.
Me at sugulite Steven: talk.
