with the Deluge bashing heartlessly among the vulnerable

with the warmth oozing from joining hands

the noise, the chill, the moist

immersed within senses,

the silence, the heat, the love

arisen from the core,

from the soul,

I want you to walk, but with confidence. As you do, smile at people who are standing still, as soon as someone smiles back at you, stop where you are, and stop your partner too... I want you to start walking, but quickly, at fast pace... Every time you notice someone look at you, change direction.

 You could guess how long it took for me to change direction and how long it took for me to stop. This was my first 'real' experience at participative performance. The success of participative performances relies on clear instructions, thus clear objectives on the part of the maker. It plays upon the fundamental notion of character objectives in classic narrative but this time the objectives are live and the characters, real people. In a sense there was a double performance, the instructional mp3 served as a cinematic soundscape- definitely not a wasted use of media in performance.
