Can anyone tell what word she's saying? The fan is repeating something her 7-year-old daughter said, and for context this video was recorded in June 2008. (Even though it's Jared and Jim on stage, I think she's most likely referring to Sam and Dean.)
(Edited to add: this convention took place during the hiatus between seasons 3 and 4.)
I'm afraid that if she's talking about a specific type of shirt (aside from hideous), and if I just show a couple random screen shots of them wearing shirts, my screen shots might be completely irrelevant.
I cut it off to make it easier to listen repeatedly to the part in question, but after the clip she goes on to say that her daughter thinks Sam made their shirts out of the hotel curtains. š
In the process of trying to Google what I thought I was hearing, I learned: 1) Justin Bieber has a sister named Hailey, 2) she's a model, and 3) she's worn some shirts people consider ugly. Since she would have been about 11 years old at the time of this convention, this was not remotely helpful to me. š¤£
As always, thanks to anyone who joins me in my subtitling madness whether you can figure out what's being said or not!

As much as I'm enjoying A Dog and a Plane, it does feature one of my pet peeves when it comes to subtitles and that is censoring swear words.
If you cannot commit to dropping the f-bomb then don't. fucking. do. it. Can't use fucker? Use asshole or dickhead. Can't use fuck you? Use screw you or damn you or whatever equivalent you can come up with. The only way censoring would be acceptable is if the spoken lines were bleeped (in this case for comedic effect).
As a translator myself, I just find the censoring unprofessional.
Does anybody remember the survey about subtitles? Well, Iām here to tell you the results! (in a very nonenglishing English)
Before I start, I should mention that I asked a bunch of people from other places and fandoms, but still, around 80% surveyed were from the Shoot From The Hip community. Youāre awesome! Iāve received so many sweet words. Thank you so much from me and from the subtitlers too. I sent them all of your words about SFTHs captions ^^
There are two versions of the survey, one of them is in English and the other one is not. Iāve combined the results in an Excel file and made some graphs.
So, as of November 1st the survey had been taken by 176 people. Out of all of them, only 7% said that they donāt use subtitles at all. Also, 23% always turn on subs, and 49% said that they turn up only human-made subtitles.
Out of all people who use subs in different circumstances (161 people to be exact), 81% said that with colour-coding, it is much easier to understand who is speaking. Another 17% said that colour-coding helps only sometimes. Notably, this group includes every colourblind person who took the survey.
As you can see, subtitles, especially when theyāre colour-coded, are really in demand. But what about translations?
The survey revealed that only 24% enable subs in their native language when watching a video in their second language and 28% do this only if the subtitles are human-made. It might not look like a lot, especially considering the fact that 34% said that even if the translation is available, they still watch the video w/o it.
[No picture this time, sorry :( ]
Some of you might think that all of the hard work of translators is not worth it, but itās not true. As long as the translations help someone, for example with learning a language, not getting a joke, when just being too tired to second-languaging or wanting to share a video with your friend, itās worth it. Have you ever been in a situation, when you really liked a meme and wanted to send it to your friend, but you couldnāt because the meme was in a language your friend doesnāt speak?
And⦠thatās all. Really interesting results, donāt you think? I was really surprised, especially by the results of the colour-coding question. Fun fact: all of the ānoā on this question was NOT from SFTH fandom. Hereās the result of the English survey (around 90-95% are SFTH fans):
140 people. 86% yes, 14% sometimes, 0% no. This is CRAZY.
Yes, there are around 3 SFTH fans who took the other survey, but I donāt know who answered what. In any case, even one or two people vs 140 is just⦠Wow.
In the end I want to say that unfortunately I will not continue my research. I used the results for my article but I probably will not use them in my thesis. I came to the conclusion that the original survey has a lot of mistakes and the questions were asked incorrectly. Also, it turns out that itās just too much for me. I tried to chew more than I can and it made me worry much more than I expected. Iām really sorry but so SO grateful. This was surely an experience!
Article by Daiz about Crunchyroll and its anime subtitles, and why enshittification is destroying yet another industry.

(Updated on 2025-11-21 -- Posted on 2025-10-30)
Anime streaming service Crunchyroll reduced its subtitle presentation quality to an all-time low with the start of the Fall 2025 anime season. While some silent backpedaling has happened since, the situation is still ongoing and the future looks bad ā which is why you should act before things get permanently worse.
What you can do about it
If you are currently subscribed to Crunchyroll, cancel your subscription. When asked for a reason, mention the bad subtitle quality and lack of typesetting. You could even link to this article.
Beyond that, and this applies to people who arenāt subscribed to Crunchyroll as well: spread the word! Share this article around, talk to people about how Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles, make it so that Crunchyroll executives canāt ignore the issue. And the most important thing: Keep it up until Crunchyroll actually makes a clear public commitment to keep typesetting anime.
If you think you donāt care because āfansubs will fix thisā ā no they wonāt. English anime fansubbing is largely dead in 2025 and isnāt going to step up to do what Crunchyroll doesnāt in any kind of reliable fashion today.

So um I put good omens into chronological order on youtube and it took me a really long time (link to playlist here)
And Iām in the process of subtitling it, with the help of @hysterical-mess, @arsamatoria, @lickthecowhappy and @ineffqble, and I would really like some more people to help with it. Currently there are 213 videos on the playlist, 16 of which have been subtitled (about 8 of the videos on the playlist werenāt published by me so i cant subtitle them, they were published by prime).
Admittedly, I havenāt been spending every second of every day subtitling because yāknow, I have a life to live and school to sit through but thereās no way the process of videos getting subtitled could go slower with more people subtitling!
There is no amount or videos you have to subtitle and if you try it and realise you hate it, you never have to do it again. I would just really appreciate some help making these videos more accessible.
Obviously there is no pressure if you donāt want to, I feel it is quite a niche thing to want to do voluntarily.
You donāt need any experience, hell you donāt need to have gcses, you just need to be able to spell and know basic grammar :D
Message me if youāre interested!
Enjoy the rest of your day/night/existence
If you were to possibly reblog this even if you donāt want to subtitle that would really help :) /nf
(This is not intended to and does not serve as a substitute to watching Good Omens. Both seasons of Good Omens are available to watch on Prime Video)
Is anybody good at transcribing and wants to contribute English captions for the 2 hour turbo/king candy analysis video? I have a file thatās already been started and can DM it if youāre interested šš
I'm not really sure how trading off the file with multiple people will work, but might as well try somethingā¦
