how to get rid of clutter
go through your belongings and get rid of what you donāt need. donate books you know you wonāt read again, and donate old clothes you never wear anymore.Ā
inĀ the book āThe Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up,ā the author Marie Kondo says to only keep the things that spark joy. otherwise, donate it or throw it away.
find all of your old papers. do you really need all of your math worksheets from seventh grade? probably not. if you tend to hang onto lots of old papers, look through all of them and recycle the ones you donāt want.Ā Ā
go through your laptop and phone. delete those history readings and old handouts you donāt need anymore, and get rid of apps you donāt use. these things tend to pile up and eat up all of your storage. re-organize all of your files into clearly labeled folders.Ā
get rid of toxic relationships. donāt keep people in your life who are making you unhappy. find ways to distance yourself from them and you will likely feel a lot better.Ā
clear your mind. write your thoughts in a journal, go for a walk or a run, or take a warm bath. find ways to calm your thoughts and decompress.Ā
So Iāve moved to a new studyblr! To those who donāt know me, Iām Maddy and I live in New Zealand š³šæ
To kick it off hereās some photos of what my desk normally looks like - at the moment Iām sharing my room with my French exchange student so everything has been moved around :)
Fun fact about me:Ā Iām a classically trainer singer, mezzo-soprano soloist and 1st soprano in choral work. It sounds really snobbish but I really enjoy it!
Top row Toothless and bottom row, 3rd from left by the lovely @ecflorescereĀ (the other art pieces were done by my just as talented friends who donāt have tumblr!)
311018 ā” 4/100 days of productivity
so the ELAT went okay i think!! trying not to dwell on it too much because whatās done is done and all that. now i just need to submit my written work and thatās the last stage before i find out if i made it to interview.... :0
i was pretty exhausted after the exam so today has just been catching up on french (i missed so much class to prepare for entrance exams hhhh)

051818:Ā a quarter system mood: watching your friends finish the school year/graduate while you just finished midterms...Ā š¢// hope everyone is enjoying these last weeks!Ā
week of feb. 12
i decided to go with a valentinesā day theme, which worked really well with the chinese new year colors!
Hereās the 7th and final part of my Studyblr University Orientation Week.Ā
The first day of class is stressful for everyone, even the upper year students. Here are some tips to help make it as easy as possible for you.Ā
Know where youāre going. Check your schedule the night before and know what classroom youāre in. If possible, go to it before the first day so that you know how to get there. If not, look for a map of your campus online (you also may have been given one during orientation).Ā
Pack your bag the night before. That way you wonāt be scrambling to find a pencil two minutes before you leave and can instead be panicking about making friends.Ā
Greet the people sitting next to you. They could be potential new friends or study buddies. It may also help you feel more relaxed if the person next to you isnāt a complete stranger.Ā
Look over the syllabus before the first class. That way you wonāt be surprised when you find out that the research paper is worth 50% of your final mark.Ā
Wear an outfit that you feel confident in. I know itās cliched, and you donāt have to pick it out the night before, but wearing clothes that are comfortable/you feel good in may help to relieve some of your nerves.Ā
Your first class will most likely just be the prof going over the syllabus and answering questions about themselves or the course. Donāt worry about knowing everything yet.Ā
There will probably be one smug jackass who acts like they already do know everything. Ignore them. They either donāt know everything and just want to seem smart or theyāre a showy jerk. Either way, they arenāt worth your time or anxiety over being smart enough to be here. Youāre obviously smart enough if youāre here.Ā
This isnāt a first day specific thing but: For many of you this will be your first time seeing service dogs. This is just a friendly reminder not to touch them without their ownerās permission or talk to them in a cutesy voice. It can distract them from doing their job or even undo the training.Ā
Similarly to the above, this may be your first time meeting someone in a wheelchair. Donāt touch someoneās wheelchair unless they have given you permission to. The chair is an extension of themselves and touching it or moving them without their permission is really rude. (If Iāve said something weird here, please let me know as I am able-bodied.)Ā
Donāt feel scared if you donāt know anyone in your class yet. Most people donāt and theyāll be more than willing to befriend you.Ā
Donāt feel weird about eating alone. Lots of people do it. If youāre worried about looking or feeling awkward, bring a book or look at something on your phone.Ā
Wait a few days to buy your textbooks. Compare the prices of new and used books at your universityās bookstore to the prices of students reselling their old textbooks. You can usually get a pretty decent deal by shopping around online. (You may also find out that somethingās only recommended reading)Ā
Find a seat that you like. A lot of the time, particularly in smaller classes, this will end up being your seat for the rest of the year.Ā
Take a deep breath. Youāve got this.Ā
