On Monday, the Scottish four-piece Mogwai launched the North American leg of their world tour in support of their “heavenly” 11th studio album, The Bad Fire, and on Thursday night at a packed Brooklyn Steel, the post-rock pioneers proved that they still sound as vital as ever 30 years into their distinguished career.

Plus, the surviving members of the highly influential Dayton, Ohio, synth-punk band Brainiac — whose lead singer tragically passed away in 1997 — were terrific in opening the show.
