I've been keeping busy with work and with taking advantage of the cool Midwest summer. The pup and I are inching our way to doing 4 miles in the morning before work. Ideally I'd like to eventually get up to 5 miles (no reason other than it seems like a nice number).
I've started doing the strong lifts 5x5 program. I initially felt awkward at the gym, worried some guy would try to coach me, but I go during non-busy hours so people just leave me alone. I'm still struggling with form a but and my strength is very uneven (my deadlifts are strong, my overhead press is very sad).
I'm running a 10k not this Saturday but next. I hope to get an 8 mile run in before it, as I've mostly been doing 5 miles on the weekends. At any rate I'm sure I'll complete the 10k easily, but probably not speedily.
I'm slowly working on watching season 2 of Big Little Lies, Meryl Streep is amazing in it, but I'm not sure season 2 is going to live up to season 1. I'm also watching Schitt's Creek, which is pretty enjoyable so far. It seems like a bit of a happier Arrested Development.
Also the two foster dogs are still with us. I love them, but I want them to find their forever home soon, before we get even more attached. They're wonderful dogs, fairly easy.

This week I will have run ~27 miles by the end of Saturday. I did stronglifts 5x5 3 times. I’m boosting my calorie count because I think my hormones are being screwy.
The fosters oddly don’t seem to have an adoption event this week, so my wife said she’d take them to the 10K I’m doing, so they can socialize them more, and maybe they’ll run into someone who’ll be willing to adopt them. They are very sweet dogs.
It’s been a busy week! I’ve been back to the gym for a few weeks now and decided to blog a weekly recap of my workouts to look back at to help me make programming decisions and keep track of my progress.
Monday: Taught a private women’s only group fitness class (1 hr)
Small group, about 8 all together I think- they were very keen and happy to be there. We did half Bellyfit, half chair barre. This week’s class was “just a trial” but they must have liked it, the fitness coordinator contacted me to confirm going forward for the rest of the term (WHOO!). I missed the boat to get on the fall group ex schedule at this venue and I don’t otherwise think there is a lunchtime time slot for me (either this term or next) so I’m very pleased to get this booked into my week from here on.
Tuesday: ate poutine (SORRY NOT SORRY). Lunch date with a friend. We had a spin through the Black Market and World Tea House, then Tin Pan Alley in Scotia Square for lunch. Fun change of pace.
After SL I played around with the rope pull trainer in the back of the weight room. I used to use it a lot of GoodLife so it was pretty humbling to not be very good at it anymore. 2.5 minutes on level 1,2.
Thursday: Taught group fitness (2 hours)
Bellyfit: Lioness Routine. We’re 3 weeks into class, and this is the first routine change (we started with Unlimited, which is a Bellyfit TV routine I believe from last season). I really like Lioness, it’s from the brief period when Bellyfit dabbled with a cardio combat class format. I’m experienced at this routine, but I did have some move sequencing issues (AUGH). We got it by the end though. :)
LeBarre: ALL THE BARRE. We did a lot of dance-based sequences, and some fun partner/group work. Great group this term, plenty of familiar faces and new faces!
Friday: StrongLifts 5x5 (approx. 30-40 minutes)
Squat: 5x5 @ 85 lbs (hard!)
Overhead Press: 5x5 @ 55 lbs (also hard)
Deadlifts: 1X5 @ 104 lbs
After SL, I played around with the Tireflip 180. I think it weighs about 100 lbs? 2 sets of 5. Then 2 minutes on the rope trainer.
This Weekend: Going for a trail walk with the baby and a friend. Hopefully on Sunday, some kettlebell and/or Bellyfit Flow, and/or Yoga Shred. <3
All in all, it’s been a good week. I am struggling to find 3 days a week to do StrongLifts which means that each workout is just a little harder than it would be otherwise, I think. I know the preferred method is Monday/Wednesday/Friday but I don’t have Mondays free- so maybe Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday is better than just Wednesday/Friday.
Next week, my Thursday classes are off because it’s HALLOWEEN! So we’ll likely take the baby trick or treating for a street in the evening. That’ll give me an extra week to practice Lioness some more too. ;)
Other nonsense fitness-ey thoughts
•I've been logging my food to try and get a good handle on what I'm eating to make sure I'm eating enough and a good macro split to teach/workout and nurse the baby. After I feel like I have a better idea of what my ideal food intake is like, I’ll stop logging. Food-related MFP data entry is such a bore!
•Thinking about a Bluetooth scale that reads body fat percentage. I know these are not super accurate but they are effective enough at-home tools for monitoring your progress over time. I'd like to increase my muscle mass and when I'm done nursing, lean out a little bit. I don't have any current bodybuilding ambitions, but I think it would be rad to develop an athletic enough physique that if I wanted to I could do a cut and have fun at an amateur show (my current goals are more sport-oriented than physique oriented, though!). Basically, in the immediate, I have some pretty modest body composition goals and I’m looking forward to chasing them.
•Trying to decide if I'll do the climbing orientation at Dalplex. It costs extra, and I've always wanted to try climbing. BUT. The cool rock wall isn't open when I want to climb (my lunch break) so I would be relegated to the smaller one in the fieldhouse only. Which I guess would be better than nothing. Maybe the next time they run the weekend "Ladies Rise and Climb".
•I lost one of my weight lifting straps. :*( It must be at the gym, I don't think it fell out of my bag at home. BOOOO. Maybe time to upgrade to hauling hooks?
I did yesterday’s olympic lifting training today and that had 30 minutes of front squats at 90% (85kg) and as the last rep of today’s squat program is 82.5kg, I figured today’s front squat programming was a good enough substitute.

Haven't posted here forever but here is me hitting the gym since my triathlon! StrongLifts 5x5 called for bent over barbell row which I've never done before. Just glad to have some sort of outlet.
I actually did the gym thing today and I don't regret it. What I've been trying to do wasn't working so I'm restarting the Strong Lifts 5x5 program over from scratch. Finished the gym session with a half mile jog that should have been longer but had to get back to work. I have a plan going forward but I'll keep it to myself for now. I promise to post updates though. Don't wish me luck, hold me accountable.
