i've decided to start posting again in this tumblr, just spamming all my screenshots as i used to do. i've been around the sims community for a really long time and really wanted to start telling the stories of my sims, using screenshots with subtitles and everything, making every screenshots feel as special as the moments happening in my game. i used to write a lot as a teenager, so i also wanted to write about them in a book-like way... there's so many good storytellers in this community and they've always inspired me, but i just came to the conclusion that it'll never be possible for me to share my sims stories like that. i'm way too busy and have way too many hobbies besides the sims. i created the perfect reshade for myself so i wouldn't have to edit, i'd just have to add subtitles. but that it's still to much for me at this time, it's just not possible. i'm also not the teenager that used to write stories all the time. i'll start writing stories again, but i just don't have the time to worry so much about how i share my sims stories on the internet, to the point that i stopped posting completely and lost so many memories because i cannot keep then in my pc.

i took this screenshot below today, and i wanted to share about how proud i am of how far they've come. the boy on the left with the purple shirt is joshua as a teenager now. the girl with the green shirt is tina and sunny's youngest daughter dianna, and even though she is joshua's aunt, they're very close in age and always were really close, it's almost as if they're brothers, so they're also best friends. the other two girls are carol's twins that are also teenagers now and came to visit.

unfortunately that's all i can share for now, but i'm so happy about how they're all together there. just like their parents were there before. just like they're children will be. this family is just so special to me, i've been playing with them for almost a year now, i'm still in the 3rd generation, but i'm making the most of every single second i have with them.

Evaluation 

When given the task brief “Looking for Light A Journey” I took immediate inspiration from one of the photos by Todd Hido used as an example in the brief. The photo featured a room of a house without any furniture, very bare, with the warm light of a sun rise or sunset filling the back wall stuck in my mind. Looking at the image I felt a sense of something missing and absence about it. The absence of people, existence, furniture and life and the wonder as to the cause of the absence.

I wanted to find a space where I could capture this mood as well as capture a similar light coming through the window. A feeling of warmth, cold, history, emptiness and abandonment. Also I wanted to capture depth and detail in the images using long exposures with the lens focal setting at a medium or high f number. The location I found was an abandoned farming croft house tucked away in the hills behind Dingwall. I came across this croft house a few years ago while on a little walk. The condition of the croft was pretty interesting as it was still fairly intact, showing signs of its former inhabitation. It even still had old wall paper clinging onto the walls in the living room. But there were still large signs of deterioration within, wallpaper rotting, floor boards missing, back wall in the kitchen area partially collapsed. But it still felt like it could have been inhabited within living memory.

 The first image I had set was of the fireplace in the living area. I arrived around 3pm as the sun was about to set under the hills to the west. Golden light was pouring through the south facing window and on to the fireplace.  Rather appt for the fireplace to vast in the warm glow. I set my camera on a tripod in the back corner of the living room. Lens focal length set to f/ 8, ISO 100 and exposure length between 2 and 3 seconds. I took several versions, some in landscape and some in portrait. Very pleased with the final results and would need very minimal adjustments in post-production optimizations.

Second images I wanted to have a colder, lonelier feel. This featured the door of the living room leading out to the corridor and the boarded-up front entrance to the croft with light peering in between the door panels.  Camera still on the tripod, repositioned next to the front wall of the living room facing out into the corridor. Camera settings still the same as before to capture the deteriorate details of the house.

Third and final images was to be an exterior image looking towards the croft. By this time the sun had gone down, darkness was creeping in. I wanted this image to look like the ghosts of the past still inhabited by having light emanating from the living room. I set up and torch in the fireplace and a large candle in the window. This shot was still rather tricky to achieve as I only had the one lens with me and I had to move away a fair distance to fit it into the frame. Camera settings were the same, but this image required a bit more optimizing in post to get the atmosphere I really desired with the warm orange light coming out of the living room window.

 I am very happy with what I was able to achieve with this shoot. I think the colours are rich, the images are dripping with a moody atmosphere, the light in each one gives off a different vibe.

War Dance (2019)

We have all experienced rage and anger, but they are often thought of as emotions to be avoided, bringing to mind a lack of rationality, and losing total control. Like all emotions, anger has an incredible, and important role to play in our world. Anger can fuel our empathy when we witness cruelty. It can move us to act. It can light a fire in our passion for justice. For this piece, I wanted to explore different facets of anger. The bloody arrow represents the destructive effects that anger can have on others. And have you ever felt blind with rage like she does? This emotion can definitely cloud our judgement. However, we see by the release of steam from her head, that she is learning to calm herself. The star map above her represents a mathematical calculation, the honing of one’s rage into something controlled. No emotion should be deemed as either good or bad. Each emotion relies on the others to balance, and fine-tune it. I hope that this piece reminds us to hone our anger into something more calculated, polished, and powerful.

Meet Journey Wonder~

Journey was born as only child into a wealthy family. Her father had been born into fortune, being a goofball and the city’s happy go lucky... with money. The story of her mother was a different one. She had worked her way out of the middle class with creating her own firm, quickly climbing to the top.

From a young age, Journey has been told she were one day to take over her mother’s empire and lead the firm. The girl, however, never had any interest in leading a big firm. Her passion lay in the one’s on four legs. She wanted to be a vetrinary.

She saved all the money she got from her parents and relatives from birthdays, holidays and whatnot. A small decade after she started this, she finally had enough to start her dream.

Brindleton Bay would be the perfect place for Journey to start her new story, buying a new house and hopefully soon starting her own practice. Her parents, especially her mother, were less than happy to see her leave. Because like this, her mother would lose her only heir to her company. A thing she didn’t just want to let happen...
