I thought I'd crawl back from the void of the cosmos to share images of my in-progress fake video game from another reality, Donne Toi la Lune. This game doesn't exist, it's a dark narrative fantasy told through drawn and painted "screenshots"

Have you ever felt like your personal growth was constantly being challenged by everything and everyone around you? This piece is all about that chaos. It reminds us of the many interruptions in life, and how difficult it is to find our purpose and path. I have infused it with little symbols regarding love, sacrifice, and the importance of using adversity to grow. This piece is largely about the journey and its challenges, and how it is okay to not yet know where you are going. Many of us are still wandering.

Ochre Queendom (2019)

This piece is meant to connect us with our most charismatic and powerful selves. The dark unicorn in my work represents a creature totally confident in being their own unique self, and as such, others tend to be drawn to their charisma. They are a guiding light to those in need, full of compassion even toward those who treat them poorly, yet they are not subservient and weak. They balance kindness, compassion and power. People like this are looked to for guidance, and are renowned for their power and wisdom. They are true influencers. For many people, those qualities may seem distant and unobtainable, but I believe all of us have this kind of charisma within. To find it, we must learn to balance a mixture of love, self empowerment, and a vision that others will want to relate to. It begins with self acceptance, and acceptance for others. A recognition not only of your own potential, but of the potential in others as well. We all genuinely have so much more to give than we have probably been lead to believe and I want this piece to empower others and help them recognize the queens, kings, and leaders they hold within.

Whistled Understory (2018)

Man and nature seem to often be at war these days.

I painted a place in which all living creatures were totally in tune with the cycles of the earth. In a way, this is my dream for an alternate reality in the future. Here, creatures that might be descended from you and I, are born in the spring, live our their childhoods in the summer, reach their peak in autumn, and pass on to death in the winter, their bodies going on to feed the earth, and their souls returning to the universe to be reborn as something new.

Imagining such a harmonious evolution helps to remind us of the ways in which we can live more in tune with the earth today, so that we can ensure a sustainable and healthy future for the lives that come after us.

Overcome the Fall (2019)

This piece is largely about social anxiety, and the personal fight many of us face to overcome it. If you are struggling with anxiety, you are in a battle. Not with the people around you (though it may feel that way), but with your own mind. This makes you very courageous. You are setting out to battle every day, even though you did not ask to be a part of this war, and for that, you ARE already succeeding. Yes, there will be bad days, which is why I wanted to paint the character IN THE MIDST of a struggle, but even despite that, she is still falling up, not down. She may be fighting, she may feel like there is nothing around her but the screeching attack of panic, but she is still falling up. I wanted my viewers to know that I emphasize with then, I see their bravery, and I believe that together we can overcome.

War Dance (2019)

We have all experienced rage and anger, but they are often thought of as emotions to be avoided, bringing to mind a lack of rationality, and losing total control. Like all emotions, anger has an incredible, and important role to play in our world. Anger can fuel our empathy when we witness cruelty. It can move us to act. It can light a fire in our passion for justice. For this piece, I wanted to explore different facets of anger. The bloody arrow represents the destructive effects that anger can have on others. And have you ever felt blind with rage like she does? This emotion can definitely cloud our judgement. However, we see by the release of steam from her head, that she is learning to calm herself. The star map above her represents a mathematical calculation, the honing of one’s rage into something controlled. No emotion should be deemed as either good or bad. Each emotion relies on the others to balance, and fine-tune it. I hope that this piece reminds us to hone our anger into something more calculated, polished, and powerful.

Tomb of Nettles (2018)

We have all encountered predators in our lives. The thing about predatory people that can make them so difficult to recognize, and often, even more difficult to leave, is that they may not always be the cliché picture of cruelty. Sometimes, these people can actually be really kind, supportive even. Yet, they still absolutely drain us. I wanted to focus on that type of toxic relationship for this piece. The cat is a weird, antlered mix of predator and prey. Maybe she was not truly meant to be a killer, but the unicorn allowed her to hunt him down over and over, justifying her actions until they became second nature. Sometimes, toxic people are just as lost and broken as they make us feel. It is perhaps the most complex and confusing relationship to be in. This piece is my reminder of how harmful it can be to remain in these relationships, not only for our sake, but for the sake of the other person whom we allow to normalize their destructive behavior toward others. ~~~

Small Shall Be Thy Savior (2018)

Album art for the band POLLEN This one is a tribute anyone who was ever told they were insignificant, or not the right color, not the right gender, not the right PERSON to do what they wanted or make a difference in the world. Growing up and seeking to become an artist, there were of course people telling me I could not accomplish my goals, but I think the biggest insult was being told that I could not make a difference in the world. I saw that the people saying this, often used it as an excuse not to even try. In this piece, hunters have ensnared a forest god. The ultimate fulfillment for their greed. And while the capture of such a creature might seem unfortunate to the average person, no one has bothered to try to free him. No one except the little girl. It took the mind of a child, innocent and full of hope, to have the courage to set the god free. When we relinquish that childish inner spirit, we lose so much potential for greatness. I wanted to paint a reminder that no matter who you are, you CAN make a difference. That even little things greatly impact the world around you. You need only remember that free little spirit within that made you so powerful when you were young, and use it. ~~~

To Mend The Broken, You Must First See The Wound (2017)

This piece is all about what we miss when we ignore our problems. The bear is troubled by a broken home. A place that should be a sanctuary, is instead a place of conflict and pain. To cope with this, the bear has turned a blind eye to their problems. And while the bear’s suffering is valid, their method of protection is causing them more harm than good. You see, by ignoring their problems, they have also become numb to the rest of their emotions. Joy, love, and even sadness and anger, have all been dulled out leaving them a shell of who they could be. But inside that shell, there still remains so much beauty, so much strength to be found if only they will once more allow themselves to see. The sights will be painful at first, yes, but they may discover all the strength they have inside and find a way to fight against their pain and remove it from their life. We miss so much when we ignore our problems. By turning a blind eye to the things going wrong in our lives, we are ultimately lead to a denial and blindness of self. When we choose to see, we become aware of the landscape of strength and wisdom that we each hold within, and this allows us to finally heal the wound. ~~~

To Manifest Dreams (2019)

We all have our strengths, and of course we have our weaknesses as well. Finding balance in life is an incredible challenge which I think most of us are ever in pursuit of.

This piece, was my manifestation of some of the balance I wanted to find in my own life. Through the mixture of the warm and cold colors, we can think of the balance of power, and kindness. Too much power can feel cold and heartless, but too much kindness, can lead to being taken advantage of. We need to find a point between two strengths in order to live a healthful life. The season of Autumn is also important here because it represents transition. We are always in transition in our life and this is a fact that should regularly be explored and embraced. The acceptance of the possibility to learn and change is something I want to make sure no one ever forgets. ~~~

This piece was painted for everyone who is fighting for the earth, and those who live here.

As mankind encroaches more and more on the earth’s land, they drown out the creatures trying to live their lives, including their fellow human beings in many cases. Here, I wanted to paint the end in process. The moment where a point of no return was reached and the last of nature had perished leaving mankind with a wasteland. In painting this piece, I hope to create a reminder that now, more than ever, we need to speak out and act in favor of the earth. The destructive forces on this planet are so powerful largely because of how numerous they are. But WE who care are also numerous, and the only thing that could define us as less powerful, is our silence.

The Gift of Teeth (2017)

The Gift of Teeth is about finding answers through pain and dreams. The places where we are often most open to spiritual presences and ideas. Have you ever had a powerful dream that felt like it meant something? I once dreamed that a fox grew a forest full of dead animals in my childhood bedroom. This dream was the product of the black fox Ivan, who frequently visits me when I sleep. Especially when I am feeling blocked in life. In almost every dream, he bites my hand. A bite which I have come to think of as empowerment. A bit of pain to snap me out of my mind and make me realize that I can make it through and survive whatever life has in store. He is my silent, intense guide when I am feeling my most weak. Desperation has helped me become clever, pain has taught me to be more wise, and dreams opened me to possibilities through symbolism Whenever strife has left me feeling blocked, I think of the gift of the fox teeth that snap me into action. It is often through pain, and dreams, where we find our best selves.

Night is the Mother (2017) This piece was created alongside a song by Wish I Were A Ghost This painting comes from a story my husband and I created about a girl who, upon hearing the music of a blind musician, began to imagine an entire world which spilled out of her mind and became real. This piece reflects one of her earliest visions, when she created the cycle of day and night. Here, Night is a creature that is constantly in pursuit of Day. As she gets closer, the day becomes darker until she finally catches and devours her prey, bringing the night. However, every morning, she gives birth to day once more and the cycle starts anew. The idea of this piece is the power of one’s own creativity. We may not be weaving physical worlds, but each of us has a way of thinking that is far more powerful than we give ourselves credit for. You have your own unique mind capable of thinking in ways that are deeply necessary to the cycle of how things work and that is something to take pride in and embrace, no matter what you have chosen to do with your life. ~~~

They Will Come of Smoke (2016)

Did you ever think about the fact that nothing really ever dies? Everything goes back to the earth and lives on.

There was a powerful creature who protected the woods and oversaw the life cycle until the day came for him to lie down in the earth and pass away. Here, we witness the moment where all the many ghosts of the forest have come to welcome the god into death, which is not an end, but merely, another piece of the cycle. His body dissipates back into the green earth and goes on to feed new life, and to create another god from the plant and animals that consume him.

Nature does not allow for a true end in anything. Whether it be the caribou who lives on through the wolf who takes its life, or the thousands of insects born in the bones of animals, that go on to feed the birds. Everything is an evolutionary cycle, and no life is truly lost to the earth.

As humans, this thought is very beautiful to me because it reminds me that the spirits of those I have lost are in essence, all around me.

The Reckoning (2016)

Bad actions very often lead to consequences. The bull represents the repercussions all of the damage and needless waste put onto the earth by those who knew better. He has come bringing smoke and fire to cleanse the earth of its disease, and those who brought upon this fate. The bull is not a creature of malice, he is the effect of poor choices. Nearly 85% of forest fires are caused by human activity, and the resulting fires are a consequence of said carelessness, and not a vengeance of nature. We can imagine that those who live carelessly, will one day bring about their own reckoning. Sadly, it might be at the cost not only to the earth, but to each of us as well. I create work like this to inspire people to keep fighting and making the best choices we can. Because our influence truly adds up and I really want to see more people taking action before we end up facing our own black bull.

The Hunt (2018)

This piece was created alongside a song by Wish I Were A Ghost

This story is about how greed makes demons out of men. There once was a hunter. In the beginning, he took what was needed to survive but the need to survive begin to give way to a thirst for power as he took more and more life from the earth. In time, he lost his humanity and became a demon. Desperate to cure his disease, he sought to take the kill a unicorn. A creature whose blood and horn are said to cure every ailment. But the demon’s gunshot upon killing the creature had alerted the empath of the woods, the forest witch. The demon explained that he had taken the life out of necessity, due to the curse he was under. But the witch saw through his excuses, for what good is it trying to right an evil curse, by committing further evil acts? The witch of the forest is not a creature of vengeance, but of balance and she does not interfere, unless the balance is tipped. The demon, being such a disruption to the cycle, was thus eliminated. We are given many incredible gifts which have allowed us to live more comfortably on this earth, that it can be tempting to take far more than we need. I often paint cautionary tales such as this as a reminder to myself and others to live without greed as it not only does harm to the lives of others, but inevitably, to ourselves as well.

The Asylum of His Omnipresence (2016)

This piece is about the spiritual energy of ancestral memory. My great grandmother built a cabin in the 60’s which later became a constant in my life. A place of memory making and discovery. Perhaps one of the most impactful events that took place there was when I met the black fox Ivan in person. I had previously been having dreams and visions of a black fox that I was very drawn to and one day, I came upon the real thing. It felt like a spell being cast, or a long awaited moment meeting completion. Perhaps it was a bit of my great grandmother’s magic checking in on her cabin and family. This piece reminds us that nothing physical is constant, but energy remains and goes on impacting us. Without my great grandmother and what she built, my work would not nearly be what it is. I think it is so important that we look to the memory of those who came before us, to inspire us today
