#stop attacking yourself

You know whike I do have favorite scenes I can’t say necessary there are a ton of lines that stick out. But that being said, there are a few. I think everyone likes to bring up Goku’s speech to Freeza and it’s with good reason. Though it has...multiple versions.

Yes, the original dub version is cheesy and very hero-ish but there is a lovable quality to it. I understand why most people hate it but this was the first one I heard

Then there’s the manga version which is significantly shorter but direct and to the point. I always loved Goku’s cocky “I think you know,” when Freeza asks who he is:

Then there’s the anime version which is nothing short of awesome. I adore Goku’s “Son Goku!” when declares himself with pride and confidence.

One of my other favorites and one I really think speaks volumes is Goku’s response to Gohan’s struggle against Cell:

Gohan: I haven’t changed...not at all!

Goku: Will you stop attacking yourself? I don’t know where you got it in your head that there’s something wrong with you cause there’s not!

I adore this line. It’s also a really good reflection of the self doubt Gohan struggles with when he and his father re-enter the world outside the time chamber. When it was just him and Goku, Gohan’s confidence grew and truly blossomed. Once he’s back in the real world with all those expectations and honestly, the rather mixed messages Gohan receives sometimes, it’s no wonder his pride took a dive. But Goku’s faith in his son never wavers and he can’t even fathom why Gohan can’t see how powerful and amazing he is. That phrase “stop attacking yourself” is so poignant because that is, effectively, what self doubt is.

But honestly? My all time favorite quote is this one:

It’s very different from the original dialogue which was Goku telling Gohan that that to reach Super Saiyan he had to “let himself snap,” but I prefer the English dub because it really makes Super Saiyan something special, something deep and spiritual and not something easily reached.

I’ve decided this is going to be where I post more of my opinionated feelings on issues, rather than ignite any major controversy on my Facebook.  I know if I shared some stuff on there, I’d probably lose friends, so here it shall stay for now.  That being said, I can somewhat see now why liberals here in America are losing out nationwide, and in elections.  I am still a liberal and lean left, but I’m still somehow being attacked for minute things.

Context: I love Thanksgiving and it's one of my favorite holidays of the year, and yet I'm being shamed for celebrating the holiday and being told I shouldn't celebrate it because "it represents cultural genocide", "we're celebrating it while Standing Rock is going on" and just general "racism".

I mean, I'm literally just enjoying family and food and a day off of work/school.  I also support the people at Standing Rock, and acknowledge the awful stuff that white Americans did and have done to the Native population.  And yet I'm still seemingly attacked for enjoying a holiday that has a deep culture in the US, is a federal holiday, is celebrated by almost every culture here, has little in common with it's colonial origins anymore, and is still one of my favorite holiday of the year.
