would you let this freak pilot your dram-class tanker. consider this: they're literally nice
anyway. i've been wanting to practice digital painting and i thought it would be fun to imitate the starsector portrait style and it WAS fun but also excruciating. bonus original version i did without the suit below the cut
This is some of my absolute favorite dialogue in Starsector
Volturnian Lobster - Starsector
"A mix of several Old Earth species and a little imagination produced this creature which grows wild in the crushing depths of Volturn's sea-floor. The flavor is said to be exceptional."
This lobster only appears in-game as a trade item, produced only on an ocean planet under the regime of the totalitarian Sindrian Diktat.
The playerbase seems to have a bit of a fixation on them, even making modded lobster ships. I've seen photos of real blue lobsters cause them much delight, as they should.
I heard there's some drama in the Paralives community with some modders putting their game mods behind paywalls. As someone who has basically no prior history with the simming community, the idea of paying for game mods is insane IMO. Especially when you consider the fact that tons of amazing mods for other games are completely free. Here's a list of a few that come to mind:
-Fallout London (Fallout 4)
-Enderal Forgotten Stories (Skyrim Special Edition)
-Stardew Valley Expanded (Stardew Valley)
-United Aurora Federation (Starsector)
-The MANY custom playable dinosaur/creature mods in Path of Titans
I understand wanting to get paid for the work you put into making a mod. But in that case, give people the option to donate money to you if they feel like supporting your work. And that's not even getting into the fact that Paralives is still in early access, and that future updates could make these paid mods completely unusable or redundant. No clue if anyone's actually gonna see this post, but that's my two cents on the matter

Some Starsector fanart for thanksgiving - The Ziggurat about to engage the Shrouded Dweller
One of the things I love about strategy games, especially the small, mercenary-band-based types like Mount & Blade, Battle Brothers, and Starsector, is how deeply they carve the habits of frugality into you, such that you behave that way far past the point you need to.
I've had so many moments where I take a step back in these games and thought "Hold on, this is a late-game file. I don't actually have to look for a deal to get what I want; I can leverage my massive fortune to buy it, if I don't already produce it in the quantities I need" and just... ignore that thought, and keep looking for the discounted fuel, the cheap horses, the town that just got raided so they'll buy my spoils at a higher price. I don't think I should examine whether there are any real-life parallels to that
