How do you make good looking gifs??
first of all thank you for thinking they look good <3 i'm gonna put my answer under the cut bc it's kinda long
i originally learned to gif in 2017 but stopped after a couple years so when sunny consumed my soul again in 2023 i had to re-learn the technical steps. this tutorial is incredible, i now make gifs using that method. it also introduced me to actions which speed up the process. op's dicom action and save actions are godsends, i sometimes adjust the sharpening if a scene looks over-sharpened but that's pretty rare.
idk where you're at in the process so apologies if i'm over-explaining but some other notes:
-i used to mostly use other people's psds to edit coloring but now i edit my gifs myself because sunny's lighting is often weird. if i use a premade psd i usually put it on lik 20% opacity
-usually i will put a curves layer and literally just hit auto and use that
-with sunny most of the time you'll want to add a color balance layer. for highlights and midtones, go like 3-5 points toward the blue side to make it less yellow. same general premise if a scene is tinted another color
-i almost always add a selective color layer to make the blues and greens in a scene brighter. i always reduce magenta in greens and i also reduce yellow in cyans/blues. % varies depending, just mess around with it, selective color is my fav to fuck around with
-vibrance layer after selective color
-i'll sometimes adjust brightness, contrast, and exposure but only if the lighting's real fucked up
-i just use arial for captions, my other settings for text below
i think that's everything that's not in that tutorial, if you have any specific questions though i'm happy to answer!
