In terms of giving ‘bad impressions’ to strangers, this is an altogether familiar feeling.
My family’s heritage is a bit of Eastern Asian [Chinese] and Southeast Asian [Vietnamese]. I vividly recall times of my mother pinching really, really hard on the back of my shoulder—the shoulder nearest to her reach—when I wasn’t behaving 'right'

his favorite part of the day is getting brushed by jules (and it has to be jules, he doesn't trust arsenic enough yet and portia's on thin ice)
obviously he can do it himself but this makes him feel Cared For, like in the palace but better because it's jules
and of course julian, having grown up with tending to his and portia's wild manes, is a very patient and loving brusher, and will style it any way his husband wants
which usually is some kind of ponytail or little updo to keep it out of his face while he's doing Pirate Stuff, with the occasional braiding for Special Occasions (eg he wants to look extra pretty that day)
