Day 1: Happy Birthday, Asra & Faust!

Good morning/afternoon/evening! There might be a chance I get back before this birthday package (and this postcard!) will. Last we texted, you told me that it’d be okay if my present for you and Faust’s birthday came late in the mail, especially since the main office messed up inputting the credits I earned during this semester. Unfortunately, I’m still missing a few units overall. I can’t graduate . . . not yet. That means there’s gonna be another few months of me attending classes this fall/winter, but I am so, sososososo looking forward to having you in my arms again. To be able to be in proper nuzzle nuzzling and kissing distance to your face again has been one of the few things keeping me going as of late.

Julian - does your MC get easily flustered? (if not then what does it take to make them flustered?)  If he’s genuinely caught off guard, then he can get a bit flustered

Muriel - is your MC observant? likes to keep an eye on stuff? He’s about average—certainly no one is going to be shoplifting from him and Asra, but he’s not gonna pull a Sherlock Holmes either haha

Julian stands on the docks of Vesuvia, regret rotting into his mind as he watches the sunset. He had plan to come here at sunrise, but it was unbearable — it didn’t matter if he was awake at that hour, sunrise was irrevocably tied to him. Even if Julian thinks he’s more in love with his own suffering than he could’ve ever been in love with him, or allowed himself to be, being there at sunrise was too much, even for a masochist like him.

Anatole, after all, means sunrise.

It doesn’t matter whether he loved him or not either, not any more. Of what use was love if he did not save him? If he did not cure him? If he did not even register Anatole was gone to never return? What a love he had to offer, the love of a wretched man who was doomed to fail in everything: he stood in the main stage of life, delivering a sad monologue about the sheer incapacity of being. He was the negation of everything Anatole ever believed in, or so he thought.

Anatole who was, to whom the answer of life was to unapologetically be, no matter where that took him. Because when the road got untravelled, unknown and new, when he made a mistake, he confided in his choices and bore it with dignity. It wasn’t a matter of silent suffering, or loud pathetic wailing: it was a matter of pride. Anatole’s pride made him beautiful, but it also made him dead, and it made Julian loveless.

He crumples his letter goodbye to him in his hand, yelping when he realises what he’s done. It’s one of the few things he has left of him, and he’s ruined that too.
