refusing to let go of harry potter by pretending that fanfiction and fanart are radical acts of protest against a transphobe who is financially advancing the cause of literally outlawing people in her country and beyond (because the UK's politics, while not equal in scope to america's in terms of imperialism anymore, are STILL very relevant outside the UK) because you, as a lifelong fan, are more comfortable keeping your comfort characters and comfort media and comfort ships and what-have-you than like, growing a fucking spine, is literally so infuriating i do not even know where to begin
and it is impossible, it seems, to get through to those people, but if for some reason i have caught you at the right, brief moment of clarity in what i can only assume is a cloud of self-righteous delusion lurking over your waking life, let me hold your hand while i say this
true and lasting change in any area of activism against oppression comes with discomfort and letting go of things that have served you, personally, well. white people HAVE to let go of the comfort that white privilege affords them. cis people HAVE to let go of the comfort that cis privilege affords them. men HAVE to let go of male privilege-- it goes on and on. because you cannot have this cake and eat it too. you cannot say "i do not want these systems of oppression to exist but i also kinda want all of the things that benefit me personally to keep happening"
it seems silly to equate that to harry fucking potter of all things but it is equally silly to pretend that you can somehow absolve yourself of guilt because you really really really super like something and are doing it as a bit and as a fuck you and the characters are trans in your fanfiction or whatever it is you are telling yourself. you look dumb. argue with the wall or tell it whatever fucking house you think you're in idk it'll listen better than i will i got shit to do
