because i am here to tell you the word of...sonia/fukawa, hear me out

i wanted to send this yesterday but it was late in my time zone and i fell asleep so now it's a little late my bad

okay, so sonia's done a lot of reading into japan's tradition of romance novels as well as its romantic tv dramas. can't understand one fully without the other, right? so she's read all of fukawa's works at one point or another, translated them into her language, popularized them in novoselic, discussed them enthusiastically with other fans on anonymous forums, the whole deal. sometimes she lies awake in bed just enraptured with one of the lines fukawa wrote - because she's so impressed that someone can do such masterful things with the japanese language!! if only she could learn from her one day!! - and when she hears that fukawa's going to hope's peak with her, she is double, ultra, HELLA excited.

but fukawa is really confused and kind of angry when sonia first approaches her. like, what could someone as disgustingly popular and beautiful as sonia want from one of her books? how dare she use fukawa's own wish-fulfillment when she obviously doesn't have to, right? and she keeps trying to prove that sonia hasn't really read her books like she says she has, but she has. she so has. it's kind of scary how much she has.

they end up hanging out a lot, because sonia spends all her time in the library sampling its wares and fukawa spends all her time in the library hiding from annoying people and sonia doesn't want fukawa to leave and fukawa can't make sonia leave either, so she's fine with listening to sonia babble, she guesses. but eventually fukawa learns about sonia's genocider syo thing, or sonia learns about fukawa's genocider syo thing. fukawa is sure that sonia was only trying to get close to her for syo, of all people, and it disgusts her more than she knows, so she runs. like, she's more betrayed than she can express out loud, so instead she puts all her emotion into one really angry, really good novella.

meanwhile, sonia's been trying to pick up writing in japanese - not writing things related to her political duties, but fiction, romance novels. she stumbles sometimes, and she knows she's not very good yet, and she's usually too busy to let herself while away her time on it, but it's a little exciting to have this private thing that she does all for herself. but now she has someone else to write for...

sonia starts leaving manuscripts in fukawa's locker, unsigned, in parts. some kind of story about a secret admirer who wants to better express themselves, and a shy, brave, smart, beautiful high school girl. at the same time, sonia starts leaving fukawa little pieces of the events that occur in her story - like, leaving roses on her desk at the same time the secret admirer in the story leaves roses on the girl in the story's desk, and so on. the manuscripts are obviously written by sonia - no one else in the school uses quite the same turns of phrase - but fukawa doesn't believe it's her, at first. why would she? who the hell is doing this?

(it's sonia. it's so sonia. she reveals herself, and fukawa tries to cover up for how hard she's blushing by muttering something about sonia's poor pacing in her story, and they kiss, and fukawa helps edit sonia's stories and sonia helps fukawa publish her non-romantic personal works, and eventually sonia learns to express herself through i-novels as well, and she's so happy to have met fukawa and learned not just romance but also the raw, private feelings she expresses in her i-novels that sonia's always been sheltered from as property of the state, and fukawa's so happy to have met someone who cares so much about her and not just allows but encourages her to be who she really is, and they become the cutest couple of the century, the end.)

(also, imagine sonia talking with syo after she and fukawa have already started dating. like, syo's already met sonia a few times before, and she thinks her idol worship of her is hi-fucking-larious, so she always kind of looks forward to messing with her. except this time, sonia's as energetic and cheery in syo's presence as usual - except that she then whispers to syo quietly, slowly, deliberately, that they really need to have a talk about managing her sharing of fukawa's life in a way that works out best for both fukawa and syo, and she would be happy to act as their go-between for better diplomatic relations. syo can't refuse, of course. she laughs it off, but man, hime-chan's kind of terrifying.)

(also, fukawa BLOWING UP at anyone who dares make fun of sonia for the way she says things, because she's sonia's critic, and sonia delivering an expert smackdown to anyone who dares make fun of fukawa, and then turning around and thanking fukawa for teaching her such excellent new insults. and fukawa just gives her a thumbs-up. also both of them get equally mad when someone implies that sonia's somehow dating "down" the attractiveness/popularity/social status ladder with fukawa, because excuse you, fukawa's sonia's princess and sonia's hers, keep your unoriginal dead-before-they-were-even-entered-your-filthy-juvenile-brain hack ideas of romance to yourself, you are weak and will not survive the touko fukawa + sonia nevermind literary revolution.) 

i like all dangan yuri rarepairs, literally all of them, but i can get the most immediately excited about happy fukawa ships, and sonia/fukawa especially...which may or may not have backfired. happy inbox spam, welcome to the BRAVE NEW WORLD OF SONKAWA (but really, sorry about unexpected wordcount, eheh whoops)
