I have committed to this, with a 2 window Caveat... This Thursday ( or whenever I hit Target ) I will have a single glass of Prosecco. I will also allow my self 3 beers on the weekend of 19th 20th October ... an away weekend ... To compensate I will add another donation to MacMillan and also take the challenge thro to the first weekend in November. I have always battled with alcohol abuse, and can honestly say that it is a major contributor to my obesity, If any of you care to join me, I am sure you will see the benefits on the scales as well as in your overall health ... Go Sober is much more than giving up alcohol for a month. I'm also raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support so they can help people living by cancer live life as fully as they can. I'd appreciate any support you can give throughout the month. Any donation is a good donation, so head to http://www.gosober.org.uk/users/steve-greenhalgh and send any spare change my way! Thanks in advance for any sponsorship! To recognise the value of others, So that ... The journey continues. Sober for October day 14/15
Saturday and Sunday morning, I see people I know on social media complaining about their hangover. I get a slightly smug feeling as I know I won’t waste my day ‘recovering’.
Instead, I’ve spent the day making a second bass trap for my studio. The big move will take place this week. There’ll cables and chaos for sure, but it’ll all come together in the end. There’s music to be made and if my calculations are correct, the neighbours won’t hear it quite so much.
Here’s to a new week as I pass the halfway mark. Thanks to my sponsors and thanks to those who’ve purchased a ‘golden ticket’ with the intention of a night off. However, I won’t be taking advantage of them as i think it makes the whole campaign pointless. It’s only another 16 days for goodness sake.
Keep the donations coming at... https://www.gosober.org.uk/users/dougie-mack

14 days sober. October 2017.
So I’ve challenged myself to do sober October this year and I’ve been sober for 2 weeks now and I have to say it has been the best decision I could have ever made, it has not been without it’s challenges, the first weekend I thought I was going to crumble.. however once I got past that I feel so full of energy and I’m no longer wasting the day after in my bed ALL day. I’ve joined the gym and I’m keeping active at least 2-3 times a week, also I’ve began meditating when I can which is very calming and de-stressing. For someone who used to go out 3-4 times a week to staying in at the weekend is a huge deal and a great personal accomplishment. I’ve also found that I’ve grown in confidence and realized I don’t need alcohol to be interesting/funny because I am without alcohol, so in future I won’t always feel the need to drink alcohol at events or when socializing. I’m having a much better sleep every night and my skin is a lot clearer as a result of drinking more water. Also, I’ve lost some weight ((not that I needed too)) however it’ a nice bonus. However, I’m only halfway through my challenge so I still have a while to go and a party next weekend which will be a real hurdle to see if I can attend an event without drinking. As well a this I hope to start doing more things over the next few weeks to challenge myself even more !
Day 13 - Sober for October
Day 13 (and day 11 & 12 :) ) and as I embark on my second weekend into it, it’s all going particularly well. Popped up to the local suerpmercado earlier and found a pretty good, if not entirely convincing non-alco Cava. That’ll do me, but there’s only so much of that I can take, so I decided on a nice pot of tea, as I head for the studio to record this week’s mr mack - Ascension featuring a bunch of new house tunes. If you like that kinda’ thing, check the show out here.... https://www.mixcloud.com/mr_mack/ It’s also available for download via Podomatic and iTunes.
Regarding the amount raised so far, we’re currently at £340 so keep it coming. Let’s help give fellow sufferers the chances I’ve had and make them survivors. It’s not just about that ever elusive cure, but also making patients comfortable and making sure they’ve got what they need. Macmillan do a fantastic job so please give what you can. https://www.gosober.org.uk/users/dougie-mack
Thanks in advance.

DAY 10 - Chuck yer’ cash this way! ‘Go Sober’.
Day 10. A day of celebration. Not only is it my son’s birthday today (27! where did those years go?) but I’m also celebrating [almost] hitting the £300 stage. Thanks to my latest sponsors. Gaaawbleshla!
Today has been pretty easy considering I’ve been asleep for most of it, due to some very effective painkillers. Hopefully they’re not hurting my liver too much, considering the poor thing was getting a break from booze!
The back pain is easing a little after the coffee table/vacuuming incident. Hopefully it’ll be better tomorrow for work.
Thanks again for sponsoring me and if you haven’t yet, please do by clicking the link....
