If Sam wanted me to have a more normal life, then I was going to full out. I had decided that night to stay with Y/n just for a few days. She was an absolute mess, everyday she'd let me in on more. Telling me more about her douchebag ex.
I drove her back home that day, by the time we had left the coffee shop it was near lunchtime. I drove according to her directions, Y/n had bought the home that needed the most renovations. The fence needed painting, the lawn most definitely needed a good mowing.
I parked the impala, and Y/n looked over at me. "This is my humble abode!" She said opening her door and reaching in her purse to grab her keys. Shutting the engine off, I got out of the driver's seat.
"Hey, Y/n do you need some help with you know yard work?" I said climbing the overabundance of front porch stairs. She turned around looking around her grass, and then back to me. "If you'd be willing to help me. I've been trying to get it down for I don't know how long." She said unlocking her front door.
The inside of her house wasn't a wreck, but it was for sure older than either of us. The old fridge in her kitchen, the ornate fireplace, the old furniture that was placed in the downstairs rooms. She took me on a tour of the rest of the house.
Two rooms, up another set of stairs, a washer and dryer at the end of the hall, a guest room across from Y/n room. It was a cute house, but could definitely use a redo, or maybe just be stripped and made into what Y/n really wanted.
"So, you can either have the couch, wish is very comfy, or you have the guest room. Your choice Dean." Y/n said rocking on the back of her heels. The bed in the guest room looked so comfortable, something about getting a good night's sleep on a good-looking bed was very compelling.
"I know that look, Dean. Why don't you get your bags from the impala, I'll get a new set of sheets on the bed, and then I'll make lunch yeah." She said patting my upper shoulder.
She touched me, like on her own accord. And she wasn't hard when she tapped my shoulder she was gentle, soft. 'Dean stop. You're only staying here for a few days. And you've gotta go back and find a way to help Sammy out.'
My phone ping, as I walked down the stairs I pulled my phone from my back pocket. Speak of the devil, Sam had messaged me.
>How's it going, Dean?
> It's going fine Sam.
>Did you know that the hunter that Y/n was with was her mom?
I asked I wanted to know if Sam and she had talked about anything that we had talked about. I want that moment in the cafe to be intimate. I hope that it's sort of just a thing between Y/n and me.
>No I didn't know that.
Okay, that's great, she trusts me enough to tell me innermost emotional things.
>Yeah, well I'm thinking I'm going to stay here. Help Y/n with her house.
The minute I sent that message I regretted it. By this time I was already outside, I could Y/n singing from upstairs she must have opened the windows, singing a rock song. I looked up at the window and smiled.
> See Dean I told you, you gotta get used to a normal life. Who's better than Y/n? I and Bobby got this anyways, text you later.
And that was the end of our conversation. It's sad knowing that your little brother doesn't need you anymore. It's hard because I took care of him all his life, from six months to right now even.
I'm still taking care of it. What will happen to me when I've got nobody to take care of. What will become of me when I can't save my own brother?
But he's right who's better than Y/n? Nobody. Nobody can understand the game, nobody can understand me besides of course Sam beside her. If you really think about it Y/n and I are like two peas in a pod.
"Dean are you okay?" I heard Y/n ask, I looked up still wearing her red sundress, she really was beautiful in every way. "Sammy just messaged me," I said grabbing my bag from the back seat and slammed the door. I walked up the stairs and stood in front of Y/n.
She smiled at me. There was of course a height difference between the two of us but did it really matter. No. Not to me at least. "What do you want for lunch Dean?" She asked.
"I wouldn't mind getting one of your famous grilled cheeses!" I said winking before walking back into her home. "Sure Dean," Y/n said, following behind me.
We both went in opposite directions, Y/n going to the kitchen, and I went upstairs. The door was open now, and the windows were still left open. the soft breeze that was blowing through was nice. New sheets just like Y/n had said she was putting on the bed.
I set my very damaged bag down. It was mid-day, so the three layers I still had on, needed to go and quickly. Maybe I could even take a quick shower.
Stripping myself of my jacket, and long sleeved flannel. I was left in my black undershirt. The cool breeze hitting my uncovered arms sending a shiver down my spine. Turning around I noticed a standing mirror checking my hair and fixing it before walking out.
The minute I made it halfway down the stairs I could smell her cooking. Not even my cooking could surpass Y/n. She was the best cook I had ever met.
"Dean, your's on the table," she said pointing towards the 50's styled table. She was quick to sit in front of me. I dived in taking huge bites and moaning in contentment.
"I'll give you a towel later tonight, so you can take a shower, and I will have to say the water pressure here is amazing," Y/n said before taking a more elegant bite of her food.
Finishing off my food, "I asked if you needed or wanted any help with your lawn. What do you want me to do?" I asked wiping my hands on my jeans something I do out of habit.
She looks like she's thinking for a moment before answering me. "Yeah, I could use the help. I'll probably end up just writing down a list of everything Dean." She said taking another bite.
We sat in comfortable silence for the rest of that time. When I got up I stretched, asking Y/n "Do you happen to have any beer?" "Check and see if not, I'll go get some groceries" Noticing the wondering expression on Y/n's face I checked the fridge. I shook my head no.
"How about you go get groceries, and I grab some supplies for your fence and fix your lawn, yeah," I said patting my jean pocket making sure my keys were in my pocket.
I left first as I watched Y/n lock her front door. A ping came from my phone. From Y/n.
>I forgot to tell you where the local supply store was, remember where the cafe was from this morning, make a left there and another right. and it's right there. Like I said small town.
I laughed and followed her directions. When I pulled up to the supply store I noticed the sign that was hanging above the door.
'Rusty Supply Shop 1914'
"wow," This place was a lot older than I was originally expecting. I walked in an older woman said hello and asked me if I needed any help and favored a yes. Asking her where I could find the outdoor paint, one that I could use on a fence, and if they sold and lawn equipment. The older was helpful in showing me everything I needed.
"You must not be from around here?" The older woman said, and she scanned my items. "No, Ma'am I'm not. What may I ask gave that away?" I asked, she looked out the front stores' window. "Your car out there honey." I smiled and paid her, "It was a gift from my father." I said before grabbing my bags. "Have a great day"
I threw everything into the back seat. 'Well, that was a weird interaction, if I do say so myself. But she was so sweet and old' I thought has I followed the directions to get back to Y/n's home.
When I arrived she was already home taking the bags that she had out of her back seat. "Hey let me help Y/n!" I said quickly shutting off the engine and running over to help. "Such a gentleman," She said in a teasing manner.
"yeah yeah, whatever. I said grabbing the leftover bags. We huffed it up the stairs, and into the kitchen. "I had just had the oddest interaction with the older lady that works at the supply store," I said helping Y/n take everything out of the bags.
"Yeah she'd a bit of a creepy, old lady, but she means well I think," Y/n said with a shrug of her shoulders. I smiled and continued to help her. She handed me a beer and asked me what I had got.
Telling her that I wanted to fix her fence meant that I'd pretty much need to pull all the nails out and repaint everything and renail it. She smiled and pulled me into a tight embrace outside on her lawn.
I could smell her peachy hair, and I could feel her soft skin under my calloused hands. "Thank you, Dean. You'd know what type of help you've already been!" She said hugging me even tighter than before. I couldn't resist the smile that was blooming across my face.
"You're very welcome sweetheart," I said resting my head on top of hers. We hugged for what seemed like an eon, and to be perfectly honest with you I'd like to stay in this warm, perfect embrace with Y/n forever.
"Sweetheart, I've got to go get working on your fence." I said trying to pull from the embrace, but Y/n was stronger than I remember pulling me closer "No, don't go again, please." it was hushed but it was Y/n sayin' it.
'Okay, what does she mean by again' "Why don't you go sit out here on the glider, and watch me. You got a radio?" I said coming up with an idea on the spot.
Y/n just shook her head, releasing me from the embrace. She went inside and I grabbed my materials. She came out, placing the radio on the top of the stairs. "Can you find the rock station, Y/n?" I said Slipping out of my t-shirt seeing as the sun was beaming down on me.
As I got to work, I'd look up noticing Y/n singing along with the music, or just simply staring at me. Like she was stuck in some intense daydream. I hadn't caught it before, but she was becoming more and more comfortable with me.
That night we cuddled on the couch as we watched a random movie that was playing. Something about the hallmark channel is the best place to find romcoms, or whatever Y/n had said. She had fallen asleep in my arms, snuggling closer. She trusted me a lot more than I had originally thought.
So many thoughts ran through my head some ping-ponging against my brain like a horrible headache after a hefty night of drinking, while others seemed like the trees I passed by while driving baby. There and then gone within seconds.
Nothing in my life had I worked so hard and thought so hard about one person. For one person. Maybe Sam was right maybe I do need to settle down, and not only with some random brunet, but I also find after a hunt or some girl that I save.
I don't want some random girl that drooling over me, or has got her shirt cut do deeply down her chest she might as well not even be wearing a shirt.
I don't know what I want.
Or maybe I do know what I want and I'm just too much of a pussy to say it out loud. Because everyone knows once you say it out loud it's true... right?
So for now I'll keep my thoughts to myself. My labyrinth thoughts to myself. I'll keep the fact that Sammy is right to myself. I'll keep that fact that having Y/n in my arms right now is the most whole I've felt in a long time, I'll even say the most I felt anything since I was with Cassie.
I'll keep that fact that I'm slowly starting to fall in love with her to myself. I've always kept things to myself though it's easier that way, less emotional, less messy when things fall apart.
