A bee bunk bed. This time of year it's very common to find bees of many types camping under the stars on garden flowers. At some point in their evening adventures they just shut off and cozy themselves into the flower petals. Agapostemon sweat bee in a geranium flower. There's something about these geraniums and these male Agapostemons. They like to spend the night in them, one in each flower, dozing away with dozens of their buddies occupying the next blooms over. These flowers close in the dark but are wide open when the bees fall asleep in them. When they open in the morning, they fly off into the garden. No other flower gets this kind of attention from these bees. Nomada cuckoo bee grasping onto a geranium leaf. It's fast asleep on this leaf, this photo being taken in the middle of the night. With no nest to call home, cuckoo bees sleep out in the wide open.
