They are so common that as I closed the garden for the night I could have counted hundreds sleeping out on every which flower or stem. I hope they stay this common. Megachile fidelis, the faithful leafcutter bee. I wish I knew what was behind the name of this species. At a glance it seems no more or less faithful than any other leafcutter bee. Unfortunately information like that about native bees is difficult at best to find. Long-horned bee male about to take off from an artichoke flower. Artichokes love bees and invite hordes of them over for flower fun time. However they don’t like bee photographers as much. It is very difficult to get a clear shot of the bees amongst the jungle of purple petals.
