First pool pic of the summer. Enjoy all of its baby blue glory.
The Unfiltered Meadow
There is no staging in the undergrowth, only the quiet, relentless geometry of survival. On a single, slender stem rising through the wild blades, a small ecosystem reveals itself. The stalk is crowded with a dark colony of aphids, giving way to the stark, lacquered red warnings of two ladybugs. Shot through the fine glass of a vintage 135mm Takumar, the background melts into a warm, sandy wash, leaving the small-scale drama perfectly isolated in the morning light.
When Andrew and Neil eventually move in together, it is Andrew who makes the last call on home decor decisions.
God bless Neil, but his standards of living are atrocious. If it were up to him, they'd have the cheapest of everything, he is the type of person to go into an IKEA and be done with it just as soon (hates not knowing where the closest exit is, that place is a labyrinth), the type to buy the first mattress he sees that fits their bed. What else is there to consider? Andrew trusts him to buy a rug for the living room: when Neil comes home with a tiny orange foot-grater deep down Neil isn't surprised when it disappears by next day, only to be replaced with a softer one, that compliments the curtains.
And Andrew? Neil (his forever home) and he finally have their own place?
Andrew's luxurious tastes kick in once more. Andrew likes fine Italian sport cars, spoiling his partner with sleek black clothes (that fit him so well Andrew wants to rip it off him every single time) and he likes sweetly-scented candles, strong-legged dark oak dining chairs and toothbrush cups that look as if they've been carved of real stone.
Their home is tasteful, but eventually Neil also takes his part of making it a home.
Hanging pictures proudly from the Foxhole Courts' Wall of History now on their living room wall. Getting King and Sir who Andrew claims to hate but Neil knows he'd kill for and their many toys. Fluffy blankets covering all surfaces for cuddling and cold nights, and their very own hand painted mugs with steaming hot coffee. Souvenirs from their many roadtrips; stupid signs from California that had Andrew exhaling air (which is essentially dying laughing, Neil would argue, by Andrew standars), a cactus pot from Texas with a cowboy swinging his gun and so much more. Souvenirs from Germany, pictures, postcards from the Foxes make it a home.
It's the safest place they've ever known.
Sunday.
