  Finally we have Fleur Vanrouge, eldest child of the Vanrouge family. When she was younger her hair formed thick and fluffy curls that seemed to be as wild as her personality, as she grew older, nothing changed. She’s rarely found inside, she’s mostly outdoors with the animals, exploring the forest around their house, or running around castle Draconia. She aspires to be a knight like her father and uncle Sebek so she did everything to become one. She learned horsemanship, sword fighting, and studied everything that she could. From linguistics, to history, and science. When the time came for her to be sorted into her dorm at NRC she was ready to hear the mirror shout “Diasomnia!” Only it didn’t, it shouted the name of her mother’s dorm. Pomefiore. Now she’s an agent of chaos for the current dorm leader as a type of rebellion. 

  Growing up in such a large household is something she adores. When she was younger she would always go with Silver to the castle if he didn’t have to be on patrol, if he was then she would hang out with her grandpa or uncle Sebek. As kids, Lilia gifted her and Alaric matching crystal necklaces that were enchanted with a protection spell, ever since then they always wear them. 

Fun facts: Always has something stuck in her hair (flowers, leaves, twigs, etc.). When her or Alaric visits home, they have a tradition of going on a trail ride past a waterfall that they’ve dubbed the “Fire Fall” because at sunrise the water appears golden-orange, then they’ll race back home and the winner chooses their next activity. Always has some type of armor on under her casual clothes post-graduation. Veryyyy baby-faced during her first year at NRC. People assume she’s a daddy’s girl but that’s not 100% true, she loves her dad and is his mini me but much like her brother she’ll always call Blanche “Mama”.

Alaric: Thick as thieves, they’re inseparable when either of them comes home. Despite having different hobbies and interests she tries her best to remember everything he likes. 

Jane: Little sister numero uno. Fleur sometimes enables Jane’s chaotic tendencies but she always makes sure that she doesn’t get hurt. They would explore the Vanrouge property and Fleur would show her all the good spots to look for rare rocks. Girl talks go hard between Jane, Fleur, and Luna.

Joey Howl: Lovers! They grew up together and have a classic friends to lovers relationship. She’s a year older than him so at NRC they meet up either between classes or after the school day to talk about stuff. Usually it’s Joey complaining about the ruckus at his dorm or Jane complaining about Pomefiore. 

Luna Howl: Little sister numero dos. If Luna wasn’t causing trouble with Jane and Alaric she would be with Fleur. There’s been numerous times where Fleur’s had to stop her from chasing the chickens.

Aria Draconia: They’ve known each other forever and Fleur is even her personal guard. As serious as she likes to be on duty, Aria always reminds her that they’re friends first before knight and princess. Perhaps even more than friends. One day Aria began leaving gifts for Fleur and she assumed it was because they’re friends or maybe the princess was being polite or she knew about Fleur’s crush on her and is just indulging it in a way that isn’t rude. Until one day the king himself pulled Fleur aside to ask if her and Aria were in a courtship.

Character info

  Alaric is a quiet and sometimes timid young man. He prefers his own company unless he’s around people he likes. Sometimes others will find him curled up somewhere taking short naps in between longer classes. Sometimes the third year students will poke fun at him because they know his sister went to NRC but he always brushes them off, until they find a snapping plant in their dorm rooms a few hours later. Despite that though he’s a straight A student, he’s quiet but he’s learned a lot from growing up in Briar Valley and around the royal family. He actually talks a lot to his roommate, especially about books they’ve read or are reading. 

  His household is quite large since it’s him, his older sister, his parents, grandpa, and great grandmother all living together. Not including the animals. But, he wouldn’t have it any other way. His mom told him about when it was just her and her grandma living together with their old dog and he’s always thought about how lonely they both must have been. At home in Briar Valley he’ll be all over town, from helping at his mama’s bakery, to his granny’s flower shop, to hanging out at the castle when Silver is on duty. 

Fun facts: Aroace icon. Certified mama’s boy. He doesn’t want to become a knight but he would be around his sister when she was training so he learned some things that way. Blanche and Granny Primrose made sure to teach him all about plants and botany, y’know, just in case. Fleur: Thick as thieves, they’re inseparable when either of them comes home. Even as kids he would always follow her around. If he’s busy with something then she’ll be the one to find him and hang out until he’s finished. 

Jane: Opposites into best friends. He doesn’t encourage her late night visits but he always hints that it’s okay. 

Luna Howl: If he has bite marks they’re from her. Somehow she always drags him into her and Jane’s shenanigans, yet he never complains. 

Joey Howl: Big bro. But seriously they’re close as well, he helped push him into confessing to Fleur. 

Mika Bucchi: Roommateee. They spent the first week at RSA in complete silence, until Alaric saw him reading one of his favorite books and got so excited he asked about his thoughts on it. Ever since then they’ve talked to each other a lot more. He still forgets to warm him when Jane visits.

  Ramshackle was bustling with the sounds of people. The huge party has since died down and now all that’s left are those who chose to stay the night at the ghostly dorm. A few people were scattered all over, some were putting out the sleeping bags in the common room, others were preparing snacks in the kitchen, a certain couple was bickering over how to set up a projector, while another was setting up a pile of board and card games.

  “Should we really set up Rose’s spot? Won’t she be wherever Jack is? Including his sleeping bag.” Epel groaned, “Yes. Means more room for me.” Rory replied, “Focus on getting the projector working.” “Well I would but I’m dating an idiot.” Ace’s mouth fell open in shock, “How could you-what if that hurt my feelings?” 

  “Did it?”

  “…no.”

  “Then you’re fine.”

  Rory gave the projector one last smack before it started working, at the same time Rose, Jack, and Vil all came to the common room holding trays of various snacks to appeal to everyone. “You guys know how to be loud.” Jack pointed out, Ace and Deuce pointed at each other, “His fault!” Rose laughed at the twos antics and plopped down next to Rory. Her so called, soul sibling. They came to Twisted Wonderland around the same time and have been inseparable ever since. 

  Everyone found a spot around the room, both on the chairs and the floor. Small chatter filled would-be silence and kept the atmosphere friendly and warm.

  After the first movie they took a break and brought out some of the games that Blanche and Vil had curated together. When Rory started up the record player, chaos begun. “UNO Championship may now commence!” Rose announced. The game went smoothly until the ones playing noticed Ace’s cards disappearing a little too fast. “Ace…” Rory quirked a brow, “Where are your cards going?” He asked. “Yeah, you had a way bigger pile on your last turn.” Rose added. Ace scoffed, “This is all of my cards! I’ve been putting them in the pile.” He explained but, no one was having it. “Pat him down, he’s stashing them somewhere.” And at Deuce’s recommendation, Rose immediately leapt at him.

  Rory found the cards under the pillow that Ace was lounging on so they were all returned and he got the entire built up pile. Yet, through the fiasco everyone forgot to keep an eye on the one who actually had 1 card left, Blanche. 

  The next card game they played was Phase 10, this was a grave mistake. Because now, Rose and Silver were fighting over the scores. Physically fighting. “Quit copying me!” “I’m just good at the game. We’re tied!” They went for each other’s throats until Jack and Sebek pulled them apart. “You two need to be separated!” And separated they were, to opposite ends of the table.

  Afterwards most of the group got ready for bed. Silver helped Blanche braid her hair, Rory made Ace do skincare with him, and Rose conned Jack into letting her have his cardigan. Normal couple things. Except Rory and Rose weren’t tired yet.

  So Rory kindly asked Ace if he could borrow his phone to watch stuff on. With Rose partially laying on top of Jack and Rory taking up what was originally Rose’s spot, they watched romcoms until eventually passing out.

  The SDC has come to an end and the team has returned to campus. Some with heavier hearts than others about the events that had transpired. Blanche solemnly followed behind her peers to their dorm. She lagged behind Epel as Vil and Rook led the way to the mirror portal. Rook was the first to notice her change in demeanor, he continued walking but turned to look at her. He took note of her slouch and dragging footsteps. “Is everything okay, Petit Rouge?” Now Vil paused his steps altogether. “Blanche?” He called out a little louder than Rook’s question. “Hm?” Blanche blinked and shot her head up from the floor. “What’s up?” She wondered. Vil sighed and shook his head. He waved for Epel to go on ahead through the mirror. Epel rolled his eyes but a stern look made him go. Vil turned back to Blanche, “What’s up is you. You’ve been out of it since we got back.” He looked between the mirror and the bottom of the stairs leading from the mirror chamber. “Do you want to go to your special spot?” He asked, any possible criticism is long gone. She glanced in the same direction as him. “Are you sure?” Her voice faltered, “After everything that happened I want to make sure you’re okay.” Rook noticed the atmosphere and also went through the mirror.

  Vil gave her a closed smile, “I’m fine. If you need your time then take it, just don’t be out too long after dark. You’re still my sister after all.” He placed a hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. “By bond, not blood.” Blanche stated. Vil shushed her, “I’ve had a long week let me have this.” They laughed at their antics and finally Blanche took a step back down, “Thank you, I…think I need to clear my head.” Vil nodded along. “Go on, but remember what I said. Don’t be out too long after dark.” “I won’t.” She assured him. At that, she made her way back down the stairs and out of the mirror chamber.

  She ventured past the gates that surrounded the campus and continued on her way down an overgrown path. Soon enough she made it to a clearing in the forest that showed off a beautiful meadow. She fell back onto the soft grass and let out a sigh she didn’t realize she was holding. She pulled herself up to sit and pulled her knees toward her. The thoughts of this week’s events came flooding back to her. The SDC, losing the SDC, Vil’s overblot, almost losing Vil. It was all too much.

  Too much in such a short time.

  Tears slowly began rolling down her cheeks and onto her skirt. A nearby bird chirping caught her attention until a hand reached out to wipe a tear off her face. Blanche jolted before seeing who it was, a pair of familiar aurora eyes shone brightly in the sunlight as they peered into her own violet ones. “Are you okay?” His soft voice wasn’t strange to her but this time it was laced with concern. “Uhm…yes, yes! I’m fine. Thank you Silver.” A moment passed with him examining her every move. She felt her face flush with embarrassment and huddled closer to herself. “You seem physically fine. What happened to make you cry?” She waved him off. “It’s nothing you need to fret over.” 

  He shook his head and sat beside her, “It’s not “nothing” if it made you upset.” She dug her nails into her palms and chewed the inside of her cheek. 

  Casted in the warm glow of the meadow, the two blurted out a statement that the other couldn’t believe, “I wish I was you.”

 Blanche’s expression widened into shock, “What? Why? I’m a mess, I’m sometimes rude and brash.” Silver put his hand on her shoulder to pause her prattling. “Those are true, but you’re also incredibly kind and honest. I wish I could make friends as easily as you.” Blanche forced back a smile, “And I wish I was as brave and strong as you. Maybe then I could’ve saved Vil.” Silver shook his head, “I don’t think anything could’ve changed those events.” Blanche quirked a brow, “You know about his overblot?” He nodded, “The young master mentioned it when he came back to the dorm. He said that Rory had told him about it when he arrived.” She hummed in acknowledgment. 

  A few moments of silence passed before Silver spoke up again. “You’re so bright and warm towards the people around you. Even if you don’t know them, you’ll still help out those in need. That’s admirable. I wish I could do it as well.” Blanche couldn’t hide her smile anymore, “If anything you’re more admirable, with your bravery and courage, your kindness and honor. You’re the epitome of a knight out of a fairy tale.” The young man shared her smile.

  They basked in the peace until Silver began to doze off. Blanche didn’t notice until she felt his head flop onto her shoulder. She looked between him and the setting sun before begrudgingly shaking him awake. He jolted upright and looked around as if something was going to attack him. “Everything’s fine! You fell asleep so I woke you up. That way you’re not heading back to your dorm too late.” She assured him. Silver sleepily nodded. He dragged himself up to his feet and held out his hand to her, “Let me escort you to the mirrors, please. I don’t quite want our time to end yet.”

  Blanche’s face felt like it was on fire, she could only imagine how red her face was. Yet, she still gently took his hand. He pulled her up onto her feet and she knew one thing. 

  If anything were to happen, she would be safe with him.
