I’ll color this later.. you just keep being distracted by renzos gay ass hoodie ok? Yeahh
Notes under the cut like w all my aus, reading is optional :3
CRINGE WARNING also I know NOTHING abt streetfighting just humor me. this is also really strangely story driven and I’m not an experienced writer and I didn’t sleep happy 7am
- Ryuji becomes a boxer at 17 after his family’s temple burns down. His parents tell him that they’d rather retire completely, because the damage was simply irreparable. They’d lost everything. Devastated, Ryuji vows to rebuild the temple himself. But with no idea how, he decides to go with his once childish dream, boxing.
- Ryuji always liked watching boxing as a kid and thought it was super cool. Thought that maybe if he weren’t to be a monk (which he rlly wanted to do), he’d be a boxer as a grownup.
- Renzo gets kicked out of his family home after he ends up expelled from highschool. Got set up by a bunch kids who found out he was queer or maybe just hated his guts, and they snuck some kind of drug into his bag only to “rat” on him to his teachers. He’d gotten detention plenty of times for defending himself which the school wrote off as rebellious violence, and this was the final straw.
(this is so cornball I’m so sorry bro)
- After Renzo got kicked out he turned to couch surfing for a while, until he ran those favors dry. Then he went totally homeless, where he ended up getting scouted on the streets by a sketchy “trainer” who promised him he’d make a ton of money by fighting. He didn’t have much else to lose, he’d lost all respect from any of his friends, and his parents thought he was an addict dropout, so he went for it.
- I imagine his family finds out about the sabotage after Renzo is long gone, and the guilt his parents would feel would be immeasurable.
- Ryuji currently is famous in his hometown, but he’s fighting controversy surrounding his anger issues in the ring and recent false rumors spreading to keep him out of the spotlight.
- Currently renzo is.. Not in a good situation. His trainer is loud and is running him into the ground, so much so he ends up snapping one night and picks a fight outside the city. He messes with the wrong person though, because despite all his MMA fighting prowess, he can’t MMA fight a gun.
- Renzo gets pew pewed and Ryuji finds him bleeding out on a park bench 😋
And Renzo probably gets all frantic and he’s like “dude I know a guy . you CANNOT take me to a real hospital bro just take me to this rlly creepy alleyway on the west side of town trust 🙏” before handing him a card w the address and then passing out 🌈🐬🫧

F.A.Q.
Why did you decide to create this?
The main intention is to always have on ongoing, set event that everyone can refer back to and participate year after year, even should this blog's activity decrease. Ideally this will also relieve some of the stress others may feel at the thought of creating new events from scratch, or simply provide an avenue to give spotlight to ships that don't normally receive attention. That being said, everyone is more than free to run separate events during any time slot; I'll be happy to advertise them here should they come up!
What tag can I use to participate?
In addition to the ship tag, you can use the following: #aoexshipweek #aoexshipweek2025, etc. You can also tag the account (@aoex-shipping-events) or send a DM to the account to make sure your entry is reblogged!
What if I want to participate but don't have the time/energy to create something new?
You can submit previously created fanworks! Alternatively, leaving feedback for other creators is a great way to be an active participant in this event, so don't be shy and reblog, leave comments on fics, artworks, etc!
Do I have to participate on every week/month event? Can I focus on platonic dynamics instead? What about polyships?
Do whatever sparks joy, the world is your oyster, there are no limits!
What content will be shared by the account?
This event is accessible to all ages. Any type of media (fic, art, edits, etc.) is accepted, including 18+ content. Just please keep anything spicier under a cut or a link with appropriate content warnings for audience discretion.
Why did you include/not include [insert ship/character]?
The intention was to make sure to cover most of the popular ships (and give love to minor ones too!), while also keeping most months themed to a certain character to allow room for additional ships not included. December, for example, is all about Rin, so although Rin/Godaiin didn't get a dedicated week, feel free to have fun with this pairing anyway throughout the month of December!
What if I don't like/approve of [insert ship of your choice]?
This blog respects everyone's choice to participate in and/or avoid its available content, and thus strives to tag all posts accordingly so everyone can curate their own experience. If any post is lacking a tag, feel free to send an ask or DM to get it corrected!
For additional questions, please refer to the ao3 collection or send an ask!

It was a few days later and Renzou found that the park was starting to become a new haunt. It cleared out early in the evening and Ryuuji didn't usually come out this far when he was on his runs. (The one time he did, Renzou saw him coming and was able to pathetically hide under a bush.)
Currently, Renzou found himself sitting against a tree, scrolling on his phone as he held it close to his face. His eyes squinted as he scoured archive after archive, using different ways to get past paywalls and looking up digitally preserved exorcism texts to try and find anything on these vila demons and past cases. Of course, Renzou hadn't found anything besides what had already been told to him, but he refused to call it hopeless.
The side effect of this, however, was hard to shake off. Failed case after failed case would detail how blossoms would choke the victim, asphyxiating them as fully grown flowers sprouted in their airways. One particular case had thorny roses piercing through their throat and chest, carving up their lungs and drowning them from internal bleeding before they even had a chance to choke on the actual bloom. Another case had the unfortunate circumstance of having been inflicted with sunflowers. Little petals suddenly gave way to large, stiff flowers that killed them before they even knew what they had.
Renzou shook his head, thankful that carnations were small and a little fragile. Though he hadn't had a fit since he spoke to Yukio, he could still remember the way the petals had clumped up in his throat and unfurled into his mouth. He didn't want to think about them getting worse.
He closed his eyes and willed those thoughts away. He was supposed to be looking for information, research. He wasn't supposed to be doom-scrolling like some neurotic with a phobia for illnesses. He furrowed his brow and continued searching, moving on from the medical paper he was reading to try and find another. There had to be something.
"Oi. Spy."
A shadow fell over Renzou and his heart gave a jump as he registered the gruff voice of the person he'd been going out of his way to avoid.
Shit. Even though he'd been purposely careful so far...!
It was fine. He just needed to stay calm. The itch in the back of his throat had yet to pop up. Renzou stilled his knee jerk reaction to hide his phone out of view and calmly flicked away to a different app as he met Ryuuji's eyes.
“Uh, hey, Bon. What’re ya doing here?”
Ryuuji responded to him by raising one of his eyebrows. “I should be asking you that. I thought Sir Pheles was keeping you busy or something when you stopped joining us for dinner, but here you are instead, lazing about in a park.”
“Lazing about?!” Renzou repeated, his tone indignant as he pressed a hand to his chest. “‘Scuse you. I’m doing important work here, yanno. In fact, it’s so important, why don’t you head back to wherever you were going?” His hand moved to shoo Ryuuji away instead.
Ryuuji looked unconvinced and rolled his eyes. “Important work. Sure,” he said with an amused twitch of his lips. “Well, since you’re so busy, I suppose Konekomaru and I will have to eat that box of cream puffs I brought to your room all by ourselves. They’re limited edition flavors too,” he added with a mockingly disappointed shake of his head.
“Don’t even joke about that!” Renzou was already on his feet. His phone had disappeared into his pocket and he was just barely held himself back from latching onto Ryuuji. “Are you serious? Are you pulling my leg? Are you absolutely sure?” he asked, bright-eyed.
Ryuuji’s expression took on a self-satisfied look. He dragged Renzou forward, hooking an arm around his neck, and ruffled his hair roughly.
“‘Course I’m sure, dumbass. I bought them for you .”
Renzou tensed up for a moment, stumbling a bit as he followed Ryuuji’s pull. “What do you mean you bought ‘em for me?” He laughed it off. “What’s that all about?”
“It’s thanks.”
Ryuuji released Renzou and gave his back a slap of solidarity.
“An apology too. I lost my head for a bit in that last mission and you more than pulled your weight, getting us on track.” Ryuuji flashed Renzou an appreciative smile. “So, thanks.”
Renzou’s eyes darted to the side. It really was like looking at the damn sun. It was too bright. He had been trying to deny it, pretend otherwise, but the last bit of doubt in his mind that wondered whether he was really in love with Ryuuji was swept away as he felt an itch at the back of his throat.
Shut up, he pleaded with his body. Not now!
“Well, far be it from me to say no to a generous gift like that,” he said, turning his back on Ryuuji and walking. He lifted his hand to his chest and rubbed soothing circles into the center. “But really, Bon, you don’t need to thank me for that kind of stuff. It’s why I’m here, yanno?”
"I know." Ryuuji's response was simple—and full of warmth. "You're starting to sound a bit respectable there, spy," he added teasingly as he caught up and began walking beside Renzou. "We don't get a chance to work together all that often, just the two of us. Nice to see you can take things seriously after all."
The compliments and praise touched a warm spot in his chest. The itch in his throat began to burn. Panic started to well up in his stomach.
His last coughing fit had been debilitating. He'd been on the floor, trying to regain his breath for several minutes as he talked to Yamantaka and if he and Yukio were to be believed, it was just going to keep getting worse. If he started coughing now, he didn't think he'd be able to hide it as a simple cough like he had in the past.
Ryuuji would see the petals. Renzou couldn't let that happen.
"When things are serious, I take them seriously!" Renzou picked up his pace, trying to shorten their travel time. "And no offense, but you could have taken that mission just fine without me. Maybe next time you should start taking things a bit more seriously," he said teasingly, flashing Ryuuji a smirk and hoping against all hope that Ryuuji would take the bait and stop fucking complimenting him. There was still time to fight it back.
The huff he received as a response was at least a bit encouraging.
"Dumbass, you're the last person I want to hear that from!"
The smile in Ryuuji's voice was unmistakable though.
Dammit. Renzou hated this. He hated knowing with certainty what these feelings were. He wanted to go back to the days where this warmth was something that he could nestle deep inside of him. Something he could hoard secretly.
He hadn't wanted to acknowledge how much Ryuuji's opinion mattered to him. How much Ryuuji mattered to him.
"Yanno, I figured hanging around Lightning would make you a little more sharp-eyed when it came to these types of recon missions," Renzou said, trying to divert his own mind from those heavy thoughts.
Ryuuji huffed again.
"I have picked up a lot!" he said defensively. "You have no idea what it's like to keep up with him when he's deep diving into a problem. The mental leaps he takes can be hard to follow; I'd say even for you. Still, I've learned a lot working under him," he added with pride. "You should consider taking his advanced courses. Don't turn away an opportunity to learn from someone that talented just 'cause you don't like the guy."
The suggestion helped a little bit as Renzou did his best to focus on how terrible it'd be to take a class from that guy.
"Definitely not doing that," Renzou soundly refused. The itch in the back of his throat was consistent, but at least it hadn't gotten worse.
Yet, a horrid little voice in the back of his mind reminded him.
"Listen, Bon," he said loftily, even lifting his finger to be as obnoxious as possible. "I know he's your man crush and all, and I’ll tolerate him for you, but there's no way I'll join one of his classes willingly."
“You're ridiculous,” Ryuuji told him point blank, rolling his eyes.
"I think the word you're looking for is realistic," Renzou quipped with a grin.
“Obnoxious, maybe,” Ryuuji corrected, matching his smirk.
“Pot, Kettle!”
The two found themselves snickering at the exchange, comfort and camaraderie spawning between them with their bickering. Though of course, the very moment Renzou lowered his guard, the itch in his throat jumped in intensity.
Renzou’s laugh turned into a cough. Automatically, he turned his face away, trying to stifle the involuntary fit from starting up full force.
“Hey…” The smile had gone from Ryuuji’s voice and he could feel his presence getting closer.
Renzou lifted a hand as he forced his voice through. “I’m fine!” His words wavered as his lungs tried to continue their coughing. He quickly shook his head. He couldn’t stay. He had to run.
“Race you!” he shouted and ran as hard as he could, dodging the swipe from Ryuuji’s hand as he tried to grab him.
“Shima!”
Ryuuji’s voice was close behind him but Renzou already had a secret weapon. As the coughs started ramping up, Renzou sprinted into an alleyway and swung around to the back of a corner shop.
Mephisto had given him a key that would return him to the high school dorms way back and it was this key that he shoved into the lock of a delivery door. He rushed through, slammed it behind him, and pocketed the key as he ran from the storage room he’d just come out from.
He couldn’t go back to his room. Ryuuji had said Konekomaru was waiting as well. So as the coughing picked up in force, Renzou hurried into the dorm’s shared bathroom and pushed his way into a stall.
He could feel it. Every time he breathed in to recover from a particularly strong cough, he could feel his inhale agitate something in his chest. He coughed again and there it was, that bulge, that strain, the way his body pushed and retched.
It hurt. It hurt so damn bad as his muscles tried desperately to expel the blockage. Renzou punched at his stomach, using the force to try and help it along lest he suffocate.
He could feel Yamantaka stirring. Renzou struck himself with more urgency.
Finally, it all came out of him. Petals, mucus, and bile slid out from his mouth and landed heavily into the toilet he had been heaving over. Renzou let out a wretched noise as his body heaved again then coughed, expelling another smaller bundle of yellow petals.
“Fucking… hell…” Renzou wheezed. The tears prickling at the corner of his eyes only made him feel worse. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, frustration coiling with the queasy nausea lingering in his stomach.
Feeling at least like that had been the end of that particular bout, he straightened up, but when he turned to leave the stall, he felt his breath knock out of him again.
