Repost from @sealegacy Photograph by @jim_abernethy // Despite oceans accounting for 71% of the planet, less than 3% are protected. Our upcoming expedition to the Bahamas is a celebration of that incredible nation’s commitment to set aside 20% of marine protected areas by the year 2020 - well exceeding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #14. It is also an invitation to other Caribbean nations to increase their own protection efforts. The ocean is essential to human survival, influencing climate, providing sustenance, and supporting livelihoods. Join us as we explore the ways marine protected areas can boost local economies, while protecting the environment and maintaining the cultural and social heritage of the region. Please help us save sharks by going to the link in my bio! I'm very grateful to all those who already have! @jim_abernethy #tigerbeach @sea_legacy @wildlifevoiceinc #TurningTheTide #epicencounters #Bethechangetheworldneeds #worthmorealive #ecotourism #marineprotectedzones #mpa #sharksanctuary (at Tiger Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtLp7NMhwnt/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=iel8ab5ljno
