So……hear me out……Imagine if Niko was doing another one of his videos of bothering people and you happen to be there but you actually think that he’s very funny and you’re not bothered at all, actually you even do jokes about him to.
LOVE YOUR WORK💗💗💗
Mic Checks and Heart Skips - Niko Omilana
Summary: You, Niko, and a flirty/awkward banter. AKA the beginning of the most unserious love story ever told.
Pairing: Niko x Reader
Genre: Fluff
Masterlist
You didn't expect anything out of the ordinary today. Just a casual walk through central London, iced coffee in hand, headphones in, minding your business until you notice the sudden shift in the air.
Laughter, chaos and a camera pointed in your general direction.
You squinted.
No way
Tall, lanky, and loud. Wearing sunglasses like he's dodging the feds and holding a mic like it's the most powerful weapon on Earth.
Yep, it's him.
Niko Omilana
He's currently mid-rant, standing in the middle of the street with his cameraman filming as he interrogates some poor tourist about their loyalty to the NDL. The tourist looks confused. You look amused. You don't stop walking, but as you pass, you catch Niko's eye.
He freezes.
Then points directly at you, dramatic as ever.
"YOU! Stranger! Suspiciously calm individual. Stop right there, I need answers. Immediate answers" Niko yelled embarrassingly, almost across the street.
"To what?" You said as you paused walking, remove your headphones slowly like you're in a western stand-off.
"To why you're walking around like you haven't committed war crimes against the Niko Defence League" Niko said with all seriousness in his face.
"I'm sorry, the what?" You said as you blinked at him confused.
"So you're admitting you're not a member, incredible. Do you know this is treason?" Niko said as he scoffed.
"Treason's a strong word" You said as you took a sip in your drink.
"But not as strong as that cologne you've got on. What? You trying to gaslight the pigeons?" You asked with a small smirk.
The cameraman wheezes. Niko blinks, caught off guard by the clapback.
"Okay wow, you think you're funny yeah?" Niko asked.
"Funnier than you? Debatable but I didn't need to make a political campaign to get attention" You said as you flash a grin.
"Okay, that's crazy. Cause that campaign changed lives" Niko said as he puts a hand to his chest.
"For real? Whose? Yours?" You teased.
"Touché, touché. She's good. Get her face, this is my new rival" Niko said as he looked away dramatically though a small smile forming in his lips.
"Thanks, I accept the position" You said as you did a little mock bow.
"Alright then, street interview. Serious question, how many chickens do you think it would take to kill an elephant?" Niko asked while he stands besides you, mic back up.
"Are the chickens trained?" You asked with a squint.
"You're asking the real questions" Niko said after he made a long awkward paused, surprised.
"I need context. Are they just chickens or like... elite, Kung Fu Panda chickens?" You asked.
"I'm scared of you" Niko said as he actually laughed. Turning to the camera real quick.
"As you should be" You said with a smirk.
"Now I have a question for you" You added.
"Oh?" Niko responded as he lifted a brow.
"If you're so tall, why are your jokes so short?" You asked, with a dramatic thinking face for threatics.
"WOAH" Niko said as he turned to the camera as if asking for back up.
"The DISRESPECT, she's insane. I'm under attack" Niko said dramatically.
You snort and take another sip of your drink, pleased with yourself.
"I think I've found my match" Niko says to no one in particular, shaking his head.
"Guys, pack it up. Video's over, I've been out-trolled" Niko said.
Then he looks at you again, a bit more curious this time.
"You're not bothered by any of this, are you?" Niko asked.
"Not even slightly" You said with a smug look.
"I've been yelling at people all day and you're the only one who hasn't either run away or told me to shut up" Niko said while letting out a smile.
"What can I say? I enjoy a bit of chaos" You said with a grin.
"You're actually cool, what's your name?" Niko said as he smiles but less performative this time, more genuine.
"Y/N" You said.
He repeats it into the mic like it's some prophetic revelation.
"You hear that, everyone? That's the name of my future nemesis-slash-best-friend-slash–possibly wife?" Niko said to the camera with a teasing grin.
"Already planning the wedding?" You said as you raised a brow.
"Of course, it's gonna be in a Tesco aisle. Very intimate, the bring your own meal deal" Niko said.
You laugh, hard this time, and he looks proud of himself for pulling that reaction from you.
Then, as if remembering something, he holds out his phone.
"Listen, normally I'd just walk away after annoying someone and call it a day but you might be the highlight of my day. You wanna drop your Insta or something?" Niko said, shooting his shot.
You eye the phone, then him.
"Hm" You said, pretending to consider.
"What do I get in return?" You asked, amused and definitely interested.
"A lifetime of bad jokes and public embarrassment?" Niko said but more of an unsure answer.
"Tempting..." You said.
"And I'll let you interview me next time" Niko added.
"Deal" You said with a smile.
You put your @ into his phone, and he watches carefully like he's just unlocked a cheat code.
"DON'T FALL IN LOVE WITH ME!" Niko yelled as you turned to leave.
"Bit late for that, innit?" You said as you made a glance back over your shoulder.
The camera jerks to Niko's face as his jaw drops in slow motion. He points at the camera, speechless, grinning ear to ear.
"CUT THE CAMERAS GEORGE, I'M IN LOVE" Niko said, covering the camera with his hands while Georges laughed at him.
BONUS - Because I love you lots
You're scrolling through Instagram, minding your business, when a notification pops up.
@niko: Sent you a message.
Curious, you decided to open it.
And immediately burst out laughing.
He's sent a meme, it's not even a good one. It's one of those cursed low-resolution screenshots with a blurry minion and Comic Sans font that says,
"Are you French? Because Eiffel for you" Don't block me, I swear that's just the opener. I've got worse
Already regretting giving you my @ ngl
Nah come on, admit it, you smiled and that was at LEAST a 4.7/10
Then, before you can type another reply, he's already calling you. FaceTime, a bold move.
You pick up, and Niko's face pops up, lit with pure smugness.
"Look who it is!" Niko said, looking all pleased with himself.
"Fell for the minion charm, didn't you?" Niko asked with a smug grin.
"Not even slightly but I'm impressed with your confidence" You said as you rolled your eyes.
"That's all I've got going for me, honestly" Niko said as he grins.
Suddenly, another voice cuts in from the background. George, lounging behind Niko on the sofa, clearly eavesdropping and chewing a biscuit.
"Bro, you slid in with a minion meme?" George said, trying not to judge with his tone but his face definitely did.
"Yeah, and guess what George? It worked, so watch your tone" Niko said as he spins the camera around.
George stares at the screen, squints at you, then back at Niko.
"Nah, I refuse to believe this is real. You actually used Eiffel for you? That's grounds for jail time" George said.
"It was strategic!" Niko said as he tries and fails to defend himself.
"Strategically embarrassing, I'm telling the group chat" George said with a snort.
You laughed and Niko swings the camera back to himself, looking betrayed.
"Okay, no. You're supposed to be on my side" Niko said looking at George.
"I would be, if your game wasn't from 2012" George said as he shrugs.
"You know what" Niko says to you, straight-faced.
"He's just mad he didn't think of it first" Niko said.
"Yeah, real gutted I didn't send a Minion" George mutters.
"Absolute heartbreak" George added, mockingly.
"Honestly, I'm just impressed you committed. That's the real win" You said with a smile, shaking your head.
"So you admit it. I won" Niko said as he perks up.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, tesco boy" You said as you raised a brow.
"TESCO BOY?! Yeah, you're finished. You've already lost" George said as he nearly chokes laughing in the background.
"Alright, both of you are haters" Niko said after he huffs.
"I'm muting this chat" Niko muttered.
You heard George cackling in the background as Niko dramatically ends the call but not before he sends another message.
Next time I see you, I'm bringing backup, I refuse to be bullied alone again Also, what's your stance on Tesco aisle weddings? Asking for a friend (me)
- end -
Hello lovelies!!! This is consistency for me at it's finest and I HOPE you understand the flow of the messages because I can't modify it the way I can in wattpad lmao.
How is everyone doing? I hope you lots are alright!! I'm really making the most of my school break vacation by doing all this so yeah
I hope y'all have an amazing day, absolute love and guidance.
As I said everytime, send in some request and ideas!!

summary they'd never argued. not like this. turns out being married meant learning things about each other you couldn't learn any other way.
prompt – first argument, miscommunication, he breaks first, soft making up warnings – argument, mild emotional distress, soft ending 🎀 word count – ~2.5k note – two stubborn people learning each other 😭🎀 lover boy sharky breaking first was inevitable and i loved every second of writing it 🫶

It started small.
That was the thing about first arguments — they never started where they ended. They started somewhere ordinary and manageable and then something shifted, one wrong word landing in the wrong place at the wrong moment, and suddenly you were somewhere neither of you had been before and neither of you quite knew the way out.
It had been a long week. That was the honest context of it. Sharky had been in and out — filming, editing, meetings that ran long, the particular exhaustion of a schedule that didn't leave much room for anything else. You'd been busy too, your own work bleeding into evenings, the two of you passing each other in the apartment with the distracted energy of people who were present but not quite there.
You'd been married for four months. You were still learning what that looked like when things weren't easy.
The argument started over something that didn't matter. A plan that got changed without proper communication — he'd assumed, you'd assumed differently, and neither of you had checked before it became a problem. By the time you were actually talking about it the conversation had picked up weight it hadn't started with, old frustrations attaching themselves to it, and then you'd both said things that were sharper than you meant them.
He'd gone quiet. You'd gone quiet.
And then you'd both gone to separate rooms, which was new and uncomfortable and felt wrong in a way neither of you had words for yet.
The apartment was very still.
You were in the bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed, not really doing anything. Just sitting with the particular awful feeling of an argument that hadn't resolved, the words still circling, the version of yourself that had said them sitting uncomfortably in your chest.
You weren't wrong. You held onto that. Some of what you'd said had been fair and true and needed saying.
You also hadn't said it well. That part you were less comfortable holding onto.
Through the wall you could hear nothing, which meant he was doing the same thing — sitting with it, the way he sat with things, quietly and for longer than most people needed. That was the thing about Sharky you were still mapping. He processed slowly. He needed the space to turn something over before he could talk about it properly.
You processed out loud. Always had. The silence felt like distance to you in a way it didn't feel to him.
You'd known this about each other, theoretically. You were learning what it meant in practice.
Forty minutes passed.
You heard his footsteps in the hallway. Slow. Stopping outside the bedroom door.
A pause.
Then the door opened.
He looked tired.
Not the tired of a long week — though that was there too — but the specific tired of someone who'd been sitting with something heavy for forty minutes and had come to a decision about it. His eyes found you immediately, the way they always did, and the set of his jaw was different from how it had been during the argument. Less defended. More honest.
He crossed the room and sat down beside you on the bed. Not touching — a few inches of space between you — and for a moment neither of you said anything.
"I didn't mean it the way it came out," he said finally.
His voice was quiet. Not apologetic in the way that was just about ending the discomfort — genuinely quiet, the way he was when something actually mattered.
"Which part," you said. Not unkindly. Just honestly.
He exhaled. Looked at his hands. "The part about you not telling me things."
You were quiet for a moment. That had been the sharpest thing he'd said — the implication underneath it, that you kept him at a distance, that you didn't communicate. It had landed wrong because it had landed on something you were already insecure about.
"I do tell you things," you said.
"I know." He said it immediately. "I know you do. I said it wrong." He paused. "I was frustrated and I said it like it was about you when it was about me not asking the right questions." He looked up at you. "That's on me."
You looked at him. The honest face — not the YouTube face, not the public one, just him, sitting in your bedroom in the quiet of an evening that had gone sideways.
"I assumed," you said. "About the plans. I should have checked instead of just assuming you knew."
"I should have told you when things changed instead of thinking you'd figure it out."
"We both just—"
"Didn't talk to each other," he said. Simply. "Yeah."
The space between you on the bed felt different now. Still there, but lighter.
"We're both stubborn," you said.
The corner of his mouth moved. Just barely. "Yeah."
"That's going to be a problem sometimes."
"Probably." He turned to face you slightly. "We'll figure it out."
You looked at him. The certainty in it — not breezy, not dismissive, just the quiet solidity of someone who meant what they said completely. We'll figure it out. Like it wasn't even a question. Like the argument was a thing that had happened and now they were on the other side of it and the only direction was forward.
That was the thing about him you'd fallen in love with, early, before you'd even had words for it. The steadiness underneath everything else. The way he held things.
"I don't like fighting with you," you said quietly.
"I know." He reached across the space between you and took your hand. Slowly. Carefully. Like he wasn't entirely sure of his welcome yet and was asking rather than assuming. "I don't like it either."
You let him take it. Felt his fingers close around yours, warm and familiar, the particular way he held your hand that you'd memorised without meaning to.
"It felt weird," you said. "Being in separate rooms."
"Yeah." His thumb moved across your knuckles. Once, slow. "I didn't like that."
"Is that why you came?"
He looked at you with the expression that undid you sometimes — the completely unguarded one, the one that was just him without any of the layers.
"I came because you're my wife," he said simply. "And I don't want to sit in the living room when you're in here." He paused. "And because I was wrong about some of it and I needed to say that."
You were quiet for a moment.
"I was wrong about some of it too," you said.
"I know." He said it without smugness, without satisfaction. Just acknowledgement. "We both were."
The room had gone fully dark around you without either of you noticing. The city outside the window, the quiet of the apartment, the two of you on the edge of the bed with your hands joined in the space between.
"We're going to argue again," you said. Not pessimistically. Just honestly.
"Probably," he agreed.
"We're both too stubborn not to."
"Definitely." This time the corner of his mouth went further — a real movement, the beginning of the smile he couldn't always help. "You're very stubborn."
"You're worse."
"I came in here first," he pointed out.
"Because you broke first."
"Because I was right to." He said it simply. No ego in it. "Sitting out there wasn't going to fix anything."
You looked at him for a long moment. Then you leaned sideways, slowly, until your head found his shoulder. He didn't move — just let you settle, adjusted slightly to make room, his hand still holding yours between you.
"Next time," you said into his shoulder. "Can we just — talk about it faster?"
"Yeah," he said quietly. "We can do that."
"The separate rooms thing was horrible."
"Agreed." His head dropped slightly, resting against yours. "Won't do that again."
"Promise?"
A pause. His hand squeezed yours once.
"Promise," he said.
You stayed like that — the two of you on the edge of the bed in the dark, heads together, hands joined, the argument somewhere behind you now and the rest of everything still ahead. Four months married. Still learning. Still figuring out what it looked like to navigate this with another person, to be stubborn together instead of at each other.
"Sharky," you said, after a while.
"Mm."
"I love you."
The pause was brief. Warm.
"I love you too," he said. Quietly. Like it was the simplest and most obvious thing in the world. Because for him, it was.
You closed your eyes. Felt him shift slightly beside you, his arm coming around you properly now, both of you leaning back onto the bed without quite deciding to, the way things happened when you stopped overthinking them.
The city carried on outside.
In the apartment, everything was quiet and settled and fine.
First argument. First time finding their way back.
Not the last. But maybe the hardest — because now they knew they could.
