SWAN LAKE IS SUCH A GEMM!! I'm so bummed that you discontinued it ;( Are you perchance one of those people that sees movie when you read? Because your writing has flow to it, I need tipss!
awwwww thankkieesss 🥹 oh that's so sweettt! Ik im sad too, but the story hasn't inspired me yet, especially with Rising Tide rawdogging me rn, yeahh im sorry hun <3 definitely not gonna update in the near future
To answer your question, I don't really see movies in my head, at least I don't think so, I don't really know what people mean by that. As for tips, I think it's just practice?
Writing have always been a big part of my life, I've written publications and articles in my native language since I was as early as 12, mainly to advocate for my people's freedom. So fanfics, for me, is just an extension of that.
I got no special juice, really, I just write. A lot. So my tips is just find your own writing habit first, and worry about the flow later!

I think, compared to most Pitt ships, babyshark is definitely less angsty, but there is so much potential angst there. There’s so much potential for misunderstandings and miscommunication and big fights. Not that I want that for them, but Park isn’t clueless and knows Emma could, at any moment, decide he’s way too old for her and break up with him. So he walks on eggshells, which Emma catches onto because she too isn’t clueless, and thus misunderstandings, miscommunication, and big fights.
🪐 ⇢ name three good things going on in your life right now
1. I have kept to my gym schedule for five weeks now only missing one day
2. It's the nicest season right now where I live and I get to go outside all the time and feel good
3. My relationship is in a really good place and next year I get to marry him
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
You caught me on SUCH a delicious paragraph. And I wrote 90.
Her hand sort of comes up of its own accord and wraps around his waist, sliding up under his shoulder blade. It feels robotic, awkward, the way she pushes up on her toes and lifts her other arm over his shoulder. His deltoid is so round, sharp separation from the rest of his arm. She can feel the edge of every muscle tensing in his back under her fingers while he hesitates before lifting his free hand to her back and rubbing gently—his other hand still stuck on the lock.
🎨 ⇢ link your favourite piece of fanart and explain why you like it
I don't know if I *have* a favorite piece of fanart? Probably your unshared one depicting the scene from Gym Crush(ed). I look at that all the time.
Hi! Do you have any songs that remind you of babyshark? And separately Emma and Brendon?
Im not going to lie, I don't listen to a lotttt of romantic songs. However, for Emma I think she would like Doechii. A personal head canon and maybe not entirely realistic. However, Doechii truly does encapsulate the black girl experience. Hence why I love her so much. Specifically this song:
For Brendon, I have no freaking clue what 40 yo white men listen too 😭
hiya js checking is it okay if i ask you for tips with how to write emma without ignoring her race (if that makes sense.. its kinda late so idk how much sense that makes) cause im white as paper and dont wanna mess anything up
I know I am so late to this request, but here you go!
Writing Emma Nolan: Advice from a Black Writer
I'm going to do my best, seeing that I haven't ever had to think in detail about writing black characters. Since ofc, I am black and usually just write from experience.
@writing-black-characters has a ton of good resources. Along with a of other blogs on here. They go into a lot more detail about specifics such as descriptors, characterization, and avoiding making stereotypes. I will spend this post on more general details. Some that are specific to Emma.
Talking to one of my fellow babyshark writer @the-claire-bitch-project, I was able to get some more insight into how a white writer goes about writing black character. Various details or differences that she tries to include in her writing.
Black People aren't a monolith, and neither are black characters:
My biggest piece of advice is to interact with Black people. Black writers and creatives ofc, but black people as a whole. No black person is a monolith. Meaning that we all have various experiences and stories that define who we are. Some that are similar, some that are different. There are some nuances that you may miss, but thats alright. Always prioritize not making a black character a sterotype over trying to make them seem 'more black'.
With Emma Nolan, her femininity and softness is a direct contrast to the typical depiction of black female characters. A lot of Babyshark writers tend to fall into 2 categories. Leaning into her femininity or, still leaning in, but emphasizing that her inherent femininity/softness doesn't make her a push over. Personally, I like falling into the 2nd category. Since, once again, I enjoy writing from life a lot.
I am very much a hyper fem person. I love feeling pretty and my favorite color is pink. However that never dictates the way my personality is or takes away from my ability to stand up for myself. Which I feel like, due to misogany, is a typical point made with hyper-fem characters.
Character studies:
Character studies are a great way to get to know a character through your writing. Reading and creating your own character studies can give you a feel of how a character acts, talks, and interacts with others. Many writers for Babyshark have character studies on Emma Nolan. Which already give an idea of her character and how her being black can influence her character.
I feel as though Angst and Whump writers miss out on the huge opportunity to look at characters in color. Who, usually have quite a bit of trauma stemming from growing up as their respective race.
Emma and Brendon:
For Babyshark, it is important to remember that Emma is dating a white man. This will effect their interactions and how Brendon treats her. Not in a purposeful way, but he is still white at the end of the day. The chance that a man of his socioeconomic status will have put in the work to dismantle is unconscious biases is VERY low.
This is a interesting plot point that you can add into the story. A little bit of miscommunication in the terms of a SMALL microagression could potentially add realism to your story. As long as it isn't him being like...overtly racist.
Smaller Details:
I feel as though a few details are pretty obvious, but I will mention them anyway.
Hair:
Emma's hair. Her hair will be coily, perhaps wavy if she's styled it to be so. Either way, she would NOT let Brendon touch her hair. A lot of black girls don't even like their family touching their hair. Let alone a white man who had no idea what to do with it.
Ofc, there are exceptions to his. In my own fic (As a Doe is to A Shark) I have a scene where Brendon does Emma's hair. However, this is after i included the detail of Brendon having a niece who is mixed (White and Black). Meaning that he had experience of working with coily hair textures.
You can of course, break typical rules when it comes to certain things. As long as you provide the context necessary to have it make sense. For example, without the existence of his niece. Then Brendon wouldn't have had the experience to work on Emma's hair. I.e. Emma would have most likely felt uncomfortable with idea of him touching her hair.
Blushing:
Most black girls don't blush. However, its a misconception that they CANT. Emma is has a lighter skin complexion. So, it is possible for her to blush. But it would most likely be a small dusting across her cheeks. It def wouldn't be happening every time she gets embarrassed. But it would be interesting to see it happen when she gets SUPER nervous.
Closing notes:
Alrighty, this was just a few things off the top of my head. If anyone has any other questions just ask and I will answer.

“Do you hear yourself? She's 23. You're a fucking doctor, you know she doesn't even have her frontal lobe fully developed!”
“That's a debunked fucking myth!” He wasn't one to yell, but his rage felt like it was swelling under the surface. “You, Ava, and even fucking mom can have these talks behind my back about me but never come to me. I told Ava, in confidence, that I was worried about our age gap because of exactly what you're doing!”
“What I'm doing? You're dating someone almost half your age and you're worried about my reaction?!”
“Because you helped raise me and now you see me as some fucking predator like your shitty ex-husband! Not everyone is like him! Some of us have genuine connections with people instead of wanting to sexually assault younger women!” Lana stood quietly. Her eyes were wide as she stared at him. Of course their mother told him the reason for this divorce. Of course Lana never considered that his secrets weren't the only ones being shared amongst them. “Lana, I'm sorry. I really am, but I'm not him and it's fucked up for you to treat every single man like they are. You have always painted me like the bad guy since your first boyfriend. I'm paying for the sins of some dumb fuck I didn't even get to know? Do you see how stupid that sounds? Do you see how shitty that makes me feel? Have always felt?”
She said nothing still. He knew that the words about her ex still stung, but he didn't regret them. He refused to take back the truth, even if it did hurt.
“I never wanted you to be like those men.” It was the most honest thing she'd said to him in years.
Brendon reworked his jaw before letting out a soft laugh. “You think telling me I'm going to be lonely and divorced before I'm 25 is what keeps me from being like the men who broke your heart?”
I just wanted to also say that now that I am still working on the chapters as they come to me, but since getting my head back on straight, I started a notion page to help me gather my thoughts since I fucking hate the samsung notes app omfg. right now, I am at chapter 12 on my outline but I ain't wrote the chapters yet. give me grace, there's so much going on. and yeah, I can't make deadlines so the tuesdays post date comment you disregard. past me thought they had life figured out!!
