Introduction and Shared Parental Leave
This is my first blog so I wanted to offer a bit of a back story as to my future blogs. They will (initially) be based around me becoming a full time stay at home dad due to my wife going back to work. Fortunately, this has been made possible due to the recently introduced idea of Shared Parental Leave; where either parent of a child can take a portion of the Maternity Leave traditionally granted to the mother. This usually totals 52 weeks.
This will only be for a total of 8 weeks, in truth I will only have Maddie on all 5 working days for 4 weeks. I set up this blog to share my findings, musings, anecdotes and diary so that in years to come I look back can remember what it was like.
My name is Ben, I am 29 and I have been married to Leanne for 4 years. On October 19th 2015, we were joined by our daughter Maddison Rose who arrived at 03:22 in the morning weighing 8lb 1oz. After some initial feeding and weight gain concerns Maddie has lived a healthy and happy life, helping create the family life that I am now so proud of.
Maddie was due on October 5th so Leanne finished work on September 18th. She then returned to work on May 30th. This is when I officially took over but due to Half Term Holidays and Leanne’s phased return, today (June 8th) was my first full day with Maddie.
Maddie is currently 7 and a half months old and is teething, crawling, standing and we are weaning her on to solid food. This makes for an interesting time! Leanne has done a great job with Maddie, and working shifts, I have been able to witness so much of it. In the next 8 weeks, I look forward to seeing how she continues to develop.
I aim to blog everyday about my experiences. I will try to be honest and will hopefully not cause any upset. This is also the first time I am writing a blog so envisage it will only improve.
