Remember the days when you woke up, had coffee in your PJs and enjoyed some peace and quiet? No? Me neither 🤣 At the moment Lizzie doesn't want to be away from me. She also wants to be in my arms at the same time as she doesn't want to be in my arms. Go figure. Can't put her down, can't hold her, so it's a constant up and down and up and down. Must be good for my biceps 🤔 And wearing PJs for most of the day doesn't come by choice at the moment, it's more out of necessity. Where to next Little One? As hard as I found the first holiday with a baby (not because of the baby but because my head needed adjusting to the new reality of not being able to holiday in the same way as we used to), we haven't even got home before I started planning the next getaway. My brother's currently enjoying Paris, so I'm itching to jump on the train with Lizzie and join him for a few days 🙈 The only problem being that in my head that will be sitting in cafes or strolling through the streets and drinking wine and eating cheese, but in reality it'd be more like spending hours on end in the hotel room while Lizzie naps. Packing for a holiday has never been my favourite thing to do. So, having to pack my own stuff plus anything Lizzie might need was a real challenge. And I totally over-packed as Lizzie didn't wear half the things in her suitcase, but at least we were prepared 🤣 Our favorite travel gadget was the @inglesinababy high chair. It's great and it fit all the tables we used from a plastic picnic one to a big wooden one with a lip. How time flies. Two weeks ago we were on holiday, enjoying the sun and the heat and today we're back to the usual menu planning and grocery shopping. Going out changes after having a baby. Last year I missed the beer festivals for the obvious reason of being pregnant, but I went again this year as Lizzie is enjoying the bottle more than the breast at the moment. Today was the first time since I went back on #maternityleave as a part of #sharedpatentalleave that I disregarded Lizzie's nap schedule and her growing dislike of napping in the pram (Oh why??) and took her across London to join her dad at Ealing Beer Festival. After all we can't always be held prisoners of the baby's nap schedule (well, I'll pay for that tomorrow when she wakes up at 5am again 😒). Currently caught on the "I want to be on holiday" & "Oh, I really love being home" pendulum. While I love being away and leaving London behind, there's something about summers in London that I really enjoy. The beer and food festivals for one, pubs with gardens or just sitting in a park (don't get to do much of the latter, but we try until Lizzie has had enough of nature). Working on that tan is easier said than done when you're trying to entertain a wriggly baby. But even with my pale limbs, I love nothing more that a good pair of shorts and a tee. Those carefree days. There's not so many of them when there's a small baby to look after, but our recent trip was as carefree as it could be. There were cute cafes, there was eating out and enjoying the sun, but most of the time it was also us sitting at home by 8pm. But tbh I was never really into staying up late partying anyway (boring I know). However, since becoming a mum, I started staying up really late. While we recuperate from our first holiday abroad with a baby, here's more travel spam. There's piles of laundry to do 🙈 Does anyone else wash everything, even the clothes that weren't worn or is it just me? Our first holiday abroad with the little one is coming to an end. Yes, it's been easy travelling in a European country, but we got a few bumps on the road too. There were no worries about food or water or medical services if we needed them. What we found challenging was adapting our usual travel style to a new, there's three of us now travel style. You don't get to do as much with a baby, especially if you want to maintain some semblance of a routine and nap times. There were days when we didn't even make it out before 3pm and those days sometimes made me feel like we're wasting time. But we weren't. We just adapted to Lizzie. Sort of. Another issue we had was sourcing ready made formula. It was pretty much mission impossible. Lizzie is still breastfed, but we do use ready made formula on the go when breastfeeding isn't possible. There's only one store that had some for premature babies, so we cleared that shop out. We got free small samples at the pharmacy, but they don't sell regular ones. It's been a while since I got through two novels each week (reading is what a commute is good for). In the recent months, I was happy to get through a few pages a month, but that's what dealing with a small baby is like. I always imagined maternity leave to be a sleeping baby and me reading in a cute cafe. Reality is more along the lines of a not sleeping baby and a mom trying to grab a bite to eat or maybe finish one of the ten made but not drunk cups of coffee 😊 And then the baby awakes. At the moment, Lizzie is very keen to mimic us and wants to play with us, so those awake hours get fairly exhausting, but she's also settled into a bit of a routine where she has at least one long (1hr+) nap a day, maybe even two, although the second one tends to be shorter. Those are the times when we get to enjoy a cup and a bit of me time. When your nails match the pool 😊 I'm still waiting to jump in the sea, but while Lizzie is happily napping, I'll have to make do with the pool. Does anyone else notice how quickly the days go when you're trying to fit in baby naps, three baby meals a day, nappy changes, etc? While we're fairly relaxed I this holiday, I also feel like we can't get anything done... Like swimming in the sea 🤣 which is a five minute walk from our house. It's past noon now and all we've managed to do is wake up, get dressed, feed Lizzie (boob, breakfast, boob), play a bit, attempt to do her claws and she's now snoozing. Next task is to actually leave the house, go to the shops, feed the adults and swim. I hope we get to swim!
