Working on that tan is easier said than done when you're trying to entertain a wriggly baby. But even with my pale limbs, I love nothing more that a good pair of shorts and a tee. This weekend feels like an endless chore, laundry, shopping, trying to cook meals for Lizzie so we're ready for next week, but all I really want to do is sit down with a book. Sporting my mum uniform of jeans and a tee 😎 To be honest, it's probably what I'd wear the most anyway as comfort is king. I'm counting down the last few days at work before I'm back on maternity leave. #sharedpatentalleave And if I'm telling the truth, I'll be leaving work with mixed feelings. On the one hand I miss time with Lizzie, I hate having to pump, but on the other I really enjoy going to work too. I'm happy in my job, it makes me feel good and proud about what I've achieved in life so far, so going back to singing Humpty Dumpty a hundred times a day appears a bit daunting at the moment. I've never thought about describing myself as a career woman, but neither did I feel very motherly, guess I'm caught somewhere in between. PLAY There was a sweet spot somewhere between Lizzie being a newborn and spending her whole days either on top of me or sleeping in the pram and now when you can't take your eyes of her as she rolls everywhere you least expect her to. QUESTIONS My head was full of them after Lizzie arrived. "Am I doing this right?" That one applied to everything from feeding her to changing her to reading, playing, going outside, E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. Whatever I did, there was always niggling doubt in the back of my mind. I've never done this before, there's no one (apart from my baby) marking my success or lack thereof, how do I know??? There were days when I wished I could be a fly on the wall and observe other parents and what they do, just to make sure, we're not too far off the plan 🙈 But eventually you learn that unlike in your professional life there may not be instant validation or a six month appraisal where you get to tick various boxes. WEEKEND How weekends have changed. 😊 Having a baby requires some adjustments. It's not that you're now stuck at home, you can still go out and enjoy a sneaky Aperol in the pub (don't worry, baby had expressed milk in the day 🙈🙊), but it requires a bit more planning. We now have to make sure to find that sweet spot, that prefect time, to leave the home. Has Lizzie been fed, burped, changed, etc? Is her backpack packed with snacks, nappies, current favorite toys? And we may not leave on time. We may be there at the agreed time or not. But once we stopped stressing about leaving the home, things sort of slot into place. And (we all hate hearing this) boy I feel the older Lizzie gets, the easier it becomes. Haven't spent any time online this week apart from attempting to read a bunch on weaning. Which I didn't. I don't think we're ready to start, but then again I also don't know what signs to look for, but as Lizzie doesn't yet sit up on her own, that's a sign enough. We're in for another sunny weekend by the looks of it, so the trainers will come out for another long walk I think.
