ok but kara thinkingĀ āi canāt do thisā and shaking her head at alex, and alex putting her hand on the glassĀ āyou got thisā and kara trying again with this newfound determination?? the two of them looking directly at each other and kara finding all of this strength inside her bc alex is in this ship and alex believes in her and alex thinks she can do this so she definitely can, and then the ship is stopped and kara slumps against the window and both of their hands are reaching toward each other without them even thinking about it, and iām so glad the writers remembered what the heart of this show is
It's so exciting to watch you react to Supergirl because you react the same way I do, a lot of gleeful arm flailing on my end:) What do you think about Maggie's face at the end of the Sanvers hug? Some people said she looked worried or off and I noticed it too.
I think she is worried, she is worried about her worries before that she overlooked becauseĀ ālife is too shortā. And thatĀ āfresh off the boatā relationships never work and Alex is so important to her that she is worried. Her worries of āi donāt think youāre ready for thisā. She is worried that Alex is not ready to be in a relationship and she cares about Alex to much for things to not work out due to ājumping in too soonā. She is worried to get her heart invested even more because when AlexĀ told herĀ āthis is a mistake..you have to goā you can see how much it hurt Maggie. You could see her heart sink into her chest and the tears starting to push to the surface before she made her exit saying, āOkay, got it. See you, Danversā . So, she is worried and is fighting a battle with herself. If she loses Alex, it will break her. She doesnāt meet many people she cares about, and she cares about Alexā¦a lot.Ā
i just donāt understand the writers like. what are they thinking
you have kara allude to her incredibly rich backstory when she tells m*n-el toĀ āforget about you and meā and think about the second chance that heās getting, this chance that she would do anything to have for herself but will never, ever get. itās a reminder that this opportunity being presented to him is bigger than their relationship, bigger than redeeming himself in karaās eyes. itās his family, and the show failed to mention that heās also getting the chance to rebuild his planet when karaās literally exploded into pieces.
how can you then have him go to his parents and tell them to get the hell out because kara taught him to be better? isnāt that just throwing everything kara told him right back into her face???
i donāt get how you can get so close to talking about the darker parts of kara, the parts of her that define her on a deeper level, the parts of her that really madeĀ the best episodes of the first season, and then turn around and just say,Ā ānevermind, we want m*n-el to sacrifice his family for their relationship and pretend kara never said thatā like ??????????? i donāt get it
Alex and Maggie Parallels: They recently got injured but instead of resting they are putting the comfort and happiness of their loved ones first. Alex gets up, despite Karaās plea to rest, to show her the hologram intelligence system she was working on so Kara can talk to her mother. Then we have Maggie who is not wanting to leave her girlfriend waiting and worrying.Ā

genderbutt replied to your post āis it just me or is it weird that māgann pretends to be a greenā
she hates what the white martians did to the greens and wishes she was a green by extension. it's also about hiding from her past and her pursuers. some people read it as a trans metaphor
ooh okay. i can see that, i guess? but to me it seems more like a metaphor for racism and/or genocide, in which case māgann pretending to be a green is sort of Yikes in the sense that sheās assuming that identity without ever being able to understand the struggles and trauma that the greens experienced. to a certain extent, because of the very fact that she isĀ a white martian, she is part of those traumas and i feel like she shouldnāt be entirely erasing that by just appearing as a green all the time. gesturing to herself while saying āthis skin is beautifulā itās a nice message but itās also sort of Weird. am i the only one who sees it this way?
It's so so nice seeing how encouraging both Chyler and Floriana have been. They are so supportive and they get it. I love Alex but I'm not really sure about Maggie. I blame the writers for that though. They haven't shown a lot with her character except that she's a cop and a queer ...a beautiful one. personally it's hard for me to relate to her. I both they explore her character more and bring a concrete storyline for Maggie. How do you feel about her characterization?
I get the biggest smile on my face thinking about how Chyler and Floriana are so supportive, encouraging, and just so wonderful. They make me love their characters, sanvers, and the show so much more. Tagging things like #representationmatters. Which i believe was one of the trends Clexakru made trend World Wide. Like, it is making me feel like the pain that I went through earlier this year will not be for nothing. We are being heard.Ā
I think you arenāt alone in having trouble connecting with Maggie. Iāve gotten frustrated trying to explain why I love and connect with Maggie so much to people that are like āIām not feeling herā. But Iām hopeful that this show will now be able to dive deeper into Maggie and her past. I feel like in order for us to get to know more about Maggie, and it to make sense for her characterization and story how it is centered around the Danvers, she needed to be connected to Alex in a more personal emotionally vulnerable manner. Maggie is a character that is very guarded and does not open up easily.Ā Now that Alex and Maggie are together it now makes more sense, in a the story, to have Maggie open up to Alex and we, as the audience, will then see more about Maggie and her past. We are able to see Alexās POV and verbal confessions about how she feels about Maggie more than how Maggie feels about Alex. I think this is leading to people thinking Alex is more invested into this relationship than Maggie. However, I think that is farrrrr farrrrr from the truth. I will explain this more in this post. Now that they are dating, I can see them showing Alex and Maggie on a date, or just hanging out, where we learn more about Maggieās past and who she is as Alex learns more. Then during this, some alien incident interrupts them then there is forward progression in the story surround āSupergirlā as a whole. Make sense? Ā
So, some people connect with Maggie with the small amount of information we have about Maggie, while others donāt. Iām with the former that does connect with her. A lot of it is due to āfilling in the blanksā with the small information we have been given. We have only been given a little bit of Maggieās past, but with it, I have drawn a lot of meta and conclusions about Maggieās psychology, past, etc. The first information we get about Maggie is that she feels like an outcast. She felt like an outcast growing up and that feeling followed itās way into her adulthood. From this confession of feeling like an out cast I have concluded that she grew up alone without many friends and got side looks from people growing up non-white and non-straight in Blue Springs, Nebraska. She was also probably called names and was probably called a āfreakā. She was also she was socially outcasted from sleepovers and girls would treat her differently in gym class because she was a lesbian. I think she developed a complex about her self-worth and sheĀ throws herself into her work to prove to herself that she does have value.Ā
The worst thing someone can call you is a negative belief you already believe about yourself. And during her last break up, I believe her ex knew just what to say to hurt Maggie the most, and it reinforced some negative thoughts she has about herself. Thoughts that she is āborderline sociopathic, hard-headed, insensitive, etc. All of these things are due to her childhood and not being close to people and/or being constantly hurt by people. Maggie doesnāt open up and she keeps her cards close. I see Maggie having a complex about āi look good from afar, but when you get closeā¦i will disappoint youā. We see her being surprised and not knowing how to respond to Alex when she so freely compliments her. Behind Maggieās smiles is a girl that was a social outcast growing up and never felt like she belonged.Ā
I wonāt dive deep into my childhood/adolescence, but feeling like an outcast and alone is something I feel a lot. When you have lived most of your life being alone, you are used to it. It is comfortable. I think people who didnāt have any close friends, or friends in general, will understand this and might be the ones that are connecting with Maggie due to this. Being picked last in gym class, praying that the teacher will assign groups instead of letting people choose, being the butt of someoneās cruel joke constantly, etc. I think that is what Maggie went through as a kid and it is something I did too. Maggie has shut herself off from most people. āI donāt do well with partnersā āI do like [aliens] more than most humans. I can relate to them.āĀ This is why Maggieās confession to Alex in 2x07 is SO monumental for her character. She is telling Alex that she cares for herā¦a lot AND that she doesnāt want to imagine her life without Alex in it. For someone who is comfortable being alone, and has not had many friends or people in her life that she counts on andĀ is connected to, this is monumental. Her voice shaking saying āi care about yOUā¦alotā shows just how vulnerable she is in this moment. This is unfamiliar territory for Maggie. She doesnāt know what to do with her feelings. She cares about Alex so much that she doesnāt want to lose herā¦.she keeps her at arms length because when people get close, they leave. They always do.Ā
OtherĀ things that I have concluded about her is that she doesnāt want to be a burden on people so she secludes herself. āI appreciate the beer and pool, but I think I need to go home and drink something a little harder and lose my cool. See you later.āĀ Also, we see her playing pool by herself quite a few times then going to the bar by herself. It is something that is natural. Being alone and entertaining herself. I think a scene that emphasizes how Maggie legit has no one is the scene where Alex is surrounded by Kara, Winn, and James and we see Maggie in the background walking into the bar and then again when she shows up at Karaās.Ā I am looking forward to Maggie having more a āfamilyā as she gets closer to Alex and eventually becomes part of āTeam Superā.
Side note: I personally love how they are moving Sanvers along quickly into a relationship and not doing the āpining angstā. Yeah, thatās all and good, but I think that type of angst has been overdone and doesnāt really add to the relationship, but more just emotionally manipulating the audience. They are going to be showing us the angst and bumps INSIDE their relationship and giving us substance. Pining angst isnāt really āsubstanceā in my book. Plus, with Alex and Maggie being older, having this āteen dramaā type of pining angst is just not normally a thing. Maggie did have legitimate reasons for not jumping into a relationship with Alex right away, and that was due to her wanting Alex to find herself and it not only be due to Maggie. Maggie helped Alex realize all the repressed things she had been feeling. āAnd now I realize that it wasnāt about you, but it is about me living my life.ā Once Alex realized that, that is when Maggie was like ā@self, stop this. You like her, she likes you. Stop getting in the way of your own happiness!ā and that is when we see Maggie nervously go over to Alexās apartment and kiss her. (god, Iām not over that scene and how cute it was and justā¦i love them!!!) Ā And as i am writing this Iām listening to āComing homeā. Ā The lyricsā¦āIām standing still with nothing in my way, Letting me go so I can find myself again.ā are Maggie getting out of her own way of being happy.Ā
I could be wrong with my characterization of her, but all of this is why I connect with Maggie so much. I connect with the loneliness and feeling like an outcast as a child that has affected her as an adult. Things she is working on, but it takes more courage than most to open herself up. I am curious to see if this characterization holds any weight as we get to know more about Maggie. I connect with both Alex and Maggie and that is what makes my love for this relationship soā¦..whatās the word?⦠Intense. holy hell this was a long response. my bad. lol.Ā
Erin, i read your age timeline post, thank you for doing that. Can you help me understand Clark's age?
Okay, Iāll try my best...
When the show first starts we see that Clark is a baby (about 10-12 months old I would say) and Kara is 13 years old when they are put in their pods and sent to earth. But then, we find out that Karaās pod was sent off course into a phantom zone where space and time do not exist and she was there for 24 years until she landed on earth and was still 13.
āKryptonās destruction sent a shock wave that knocked my pod off course and into the Phantom Zone. A region in space where time doesnāt pass. I slept there for 24 years until somehow I got here. When I arrived, I was still a 13-year-old girl.ā
So, when Kara got to earth Clark was about 25 years old and she was 13 years old. We also have Winn referencing Kara and Clarkās age difference in 2x01: āSuperman, youāre 12 years older than Kara, right? āCause you do not look it.ā The age differenceĀ ārestartedā when Kara landed on earth, therefore it is only a 12 year age difference and not a 37 year (24+13) age difference. Also, as Winn referenced, due to Clark being a Kryptonian he doesnāt age as quickly as humans so he looks even younger. If Kara is about 25/26 years old in canon right now (x), then Clark is approximately 37/38 years old.
