Man. Love thinking about my septarian's relationship with gender... They've pretty much been taken from a world where gender is a non-issue on every level and dumped in one where it Matters A Lot, and they are NOT having a good time of it.
They're more androgynous than mewmens, and being reptiles lack the secondary sex characteristics most humans would look for, e.g, breasts and beards (no septarian has hair except on their head, and that isn't even hair). The combined non-issue that is gender and lack of a clear way for a mewmen to determine sex makes septarians more menacing to mewmens because mewmen society is incredibly gendered- your sex determines your social position, and in a lot of ways violating gender norms is social suicide. Septarians have their gender policed heavily and are villainized for their perceived violation of the natural order.
I really need to go through for a more detailed analysis here but... after abandoning Star in the wand, Toffee showed signs of remorse. It is very important that you understand he showed signs of remorse.
It's subtle (it's in his facial expressions when he's confronted by Moon, and later when he's walking away) but... I don't think he felt good about what happened.
The creeping sense of of despair I feel when I sense that a fanwork is setting up septarians as villains...
