Rest is a radical act. Rest is your most important radical act. It is an act of pure love. It is, perhaps, the biggest act of love you can show for yourself and for those around you. When you practice self-care, focusing on deep rest on a daily basis, you do more for your well-being than almost any other choice you make. When you rest, you gather your energy mind/body/spirit. It empowers you to be more open-hearted, kind, pleasant , purposeful and connected to your higher-self. When you stop pushing yourself until you collapse on the couch with ice cream and binge-tv, you live with more meaning and feel more satisfied with your life. That power ripples out into your family and your community. It affects your work, your parenting, your relationships, your influence and your effectiveness. Rest is more than just sleep. Creating a life that allows for solid sleep is important. Rest helps you create that life. Rest is different than sleep and staying away from exhaustion, through rest, increases your chance of effective sleep. Rest comes in many forms. Soaking in a hot tub, meditating, journaling, reading (for fun), a strolling walk, a long lazy lunch with a friend can all help soothe you mind/body/spirit. Take into account who you are in the moment and do what’s right for you. For some a lunch, while fun, is exhausting. For me, an extrovert, it’s rejuvenating. Choose something that will make you feel relaxed and have more energy than when you began. Join us Sundays for Restorative Yoga at 8:30p, central.
