Hey! I️ saw you went to a arts high school - I️ just transferred from conservatory to pre med after going to arts high school and then on to conservatory. Nice to see someone follow a similar path. Haven’t taken a science class since I️ was in 7th grade, so this first semester of chem 1 bio 1 etc has been a big adjustment but very exciting! Did you feel like you had to work harder in Science/math in college since you didn’t in high school? All these kids coming right from AP seem so calm!!
Oh, I feel that struggle. The world of science was bright and new and shiny, but not in a cool gift way. In a very sharp knife way. But still fun.
That being said I was very happy with my switch but I did struggle more than average bear because I particularly had no background, just like you. Bio 1 and 2 were fine because it’s still a lot of memorization over functional thinking but chemistry and physics I and II kicked my butt. I did find myself studying a lot more than my friends because despite them being introductory classes I had a lot to catch up on.
But let me give you an interesting benefit eventually the playing field levels out. No one in high school takes organic chemistry (mostly). No one is taking advanced statistics or mechanical engineering. Those upper level classes are where college level becomes a real thing. And guess what? We’re already used to having to work our butts off for the minimum and having while having idea what’s going on. We’ve had practice. The transition period from “what the hell?” to “I’ve know what I need to do to succeed” is greatly reduced because, hey, been there done that. And believe me on this, I have watched the freak out of students not being able to adjust because there was no introduction or previous class taken at that level. It’s not pretty.
I’m not taking away from any work anyone does in science classes. Most of us work hard all the time. But the learning curve is much less steep when you’ve seen the material before and I think everyone can acknowledge that. So if you’re keeping up with those AP kids, be super proud of yourself. You’re mastering the skill of the blind entry and getting a solid education. Good job.
If they the answer the question wrong, we can set the paper on fire.
Boy on how to make a poster interactive
Did you know that kids who are adopted get free college now?
Where do these people get this bullshit?!
