“You know what you don’t see often? Someone on Tumblr hijacking a poem written long ago.” - @voidlightmoon​

These words inspired me to launch another random prompt on here! They have become rare, but this is an idea too good to pass up. Such a great opportunity to share one’s respect and admiration for a fellow poet, or a specific piece that has stuck with you over time. It also allows the rest of us to read that poem, perhaps lost to the internet’s abyss! I think it’s a great way to strengthen the communal bond. Hope you guys think so too.

Guidelines: 1) Pick a poem that was written at least one year ago and hijack it. This means you use the existing poem and write an answer to it, create a continuation, or use the already existing words to write whatever the poem sparks. Do keep the poem you’re using intact.

2) Normally hijacks are written by using the reblog function. But for this prompt (and tagging visibility reasons) create a new post. Copy-paste the words used by the poet of your choice and don’t forget to give them proper credit! Add a link to the original poem. 

3) Tag it #sbpprompt and I will reblog it here. Be sure to use one of your first five tags for this. If your poem hasn’t gotten reblogged within 24 hours, send me a message and I’ll add it to the queue.

in a bud

The sky didn't glisten

With the hues of a vibrant rainbow,

Neither did the heavens above

Bestowed any somber ray of hope

Not a single cheerful birdsong

Felt delightfully familiar,

A snow white canvas

Of pristine beginnings

Never fully adorned my vision,

Yet something inside

Yearned to blossom,

The sharp branches of hawthorns

Awaited a burst of glowing colours

Nothing seemed effortless

Yet everything at once called for

A renewed glimpse

And another glance,

soon the flowers fade,

a wilted petal–  inside, i find a broken seed;

me without you is this.

i walk into a night, a dusk, my oubliette love.

Have you ever noticed how wanting burns you up from the inside out? Like one moment I am whole, but then I hear your voice on the phone and I swear to god three blocks away from here they can smell smoke.

I think about that a lot How for years I left ash on everything I touched Dusty fingerprints for hands no longer there Once you were gone I went through my apartment Numbering all the things that had been tarnished Blackened by mere association Nothing felt safe to look at anymore A longing like that is akin to arson A constant attempt at murder With my own hands reaching for my throat Choked up by every token Embers still glowing red With such desperate hunger

I stood on a crime scene With so many potential culprits That scarf you said you liked That dresser you'd always bump into A tile we cracked in the kitchen The first time we cooked together I walked through each room A bed of hot coals Every line sharp, every edge jagged Those familiar objects laid like traps Live wires spouting sparks Ready to catch my eye, ready to catch fire

You see, it all burnt around me, over and over Stoked with each breath of your scent Real or imagined Embedded everywhere The acrid memory of smoke

And the bouquet is but a facade
