I see some sayings like “A thimble is not necessary in Sashiko”. It is interesting to me because I cannot do any Sashiko without the thimble. Please do not misread this. I am NOT saying “Sashiko without thimble is wrong.” Again, there is no Right or Wrong in Sashiko. However, here is one question. Do they “choose not to use”? Or “cannot use” the thimble? If they can use the thimble, and then choose not to use it, I would like to learn how they do. I am here to learn. If they "cannot" use the thimble (or don’t know how to use), then I want them to learn (practice) how to use the thimble before spreading the words that Sashiko doesn’t require the thimble. Another perspective of our activity to protect Sashiko from repainting. Sashiko needs thimble, at least, in the Sashiko we practice. Fabric, needle, thimble, and thread. It is very easy to enjoy Sashiko. However, I understand the confusion of where to start. Then, “Sashiko set (kit)” becomes the “best-seller” in Sashiko. I have no issue with the package of necessary Sashiko items. What I would like you to care about is “who” is selling the set. Sashiko is definitely in the trend now. Dealers with aiming to get the razer thin profit jumped in the market. Some of those dealers are good at loss-cutting when they judge the Sashiko is no longer in trend (no longer profitable). So, by choosing the “dealers”, we may end up losing the suppliers who try to protect the culture while doing the business. The cheaper the better, the easier the more appealing. I understand that. However, your care for the culture itself is greatly appreciated. A new (temporary) look on our special set of Sashiko Needles and thimble. I usually purchase them from Keiko in Japan. However, due to Covid-19, it is taking extra long to get them in stock. Since everything is handmade, we do not have a big stock to begin with… so I am preparing the original (temporary) package for the set with using my own needles & thimble as well the stock for the workshops, which I was going to schedule for the Summer & Fall in 2020.
