Asher couldn't sleep, he was just too 'on' one could say. The day's events had left him absolutely energetic over the outcome. He was a father. How could anyone have let that happen? It had his nerves going, he was excited mostly. All his life he had thought he would have been long dead by now. Maybe his parents would have moved on and finally had another kid. But as it turned out, the story had not gone that way. Now he was standing in front of a door, heart pounding as he heard the small little whimpers behind the door.Â
Darius was absolutely asleep at this point, the other had had quite a tiring and eventful day the day before. Giving birth couldn't have been easy. Asher hadn't liked the entire thing, if he was to be truly honest. They hadn't even planned for it, and he felt like he had made Darius be stuck like that. Perhaps that was part of the reason why the other was so grumpy throughout the entire pregnancy. Inhaling sharply he lift a hand up, bringing it to the back of his head. Scratch at the back of his head he had looked around " Oh man... I'm a dad and a husband...What bizarre crazy alternate dimension have I found myself in."
Though it was absolutely amusing to him how he continued to impress doctors year after year. At first he wasn't supposed to live passed the age of five. Then when he was six he wasn't expected to live passed the age of nine. Then when he was fourteen he had been told that he would never make it to adulthood. Finally, the last time such a thing had been said to him was the doctor telling him he had only had a few months. Yet here he was standing two years later with a god damn baby and a wife. Granted, he wouldn't have that wife for very long.
But for now, in this moment, things, life...had been just as he had never dreamed for himself. Asher had felt more than lucky, giddy, perhaps was the right way to describe it. He bounced a little bit before reaching out to grab the door knob. Opening the door a moment later he continued to listen to the faint whimpering " Hey-hey...Shhhh..." He whispered gently as he walked toward the crib in the middle of the nursery. Asher had a bed set up next to it for him to be close to Sage for the night, or until Darius had regained his strength.
Leaning over the crib he reached in to gently run a finger over the back of one of Sage's hands that had managed to free itself from the blanket " I'm your dad. You're my daughter..." He looked down toward the baby " I can't believe something like you could fit in Darius..." He mumbled with a small giggle. Of course Darius being a female at the moment absolutely made it better " You're so much bigger than I thought you would be." And the best part was, the baby had been absolutely healthy. He had been happy to hear this status, not wanting his daughter to have to go through the same complications he had as an infant.
" I'm going to be right here, all night. Don't cry." Â Pulling away he looked around for a chair. One they had put in the nursery so they could sit next to the crib. Pulling it over he sat down and slipped his fingers through the bar " Hmm...You definitely look like a Shelters baby." He commented making a face. Though he thought that Darius, even as a woman, was absolutely gorgeous, so it wasn't a dig at the others looks. Watching the baby fall back asleep Asher got a strange feeling as the baby had been staring at him. Even at being only a few hours old. Something had pulled at his mind as he watched his daughter.
For two years that strange almost nauseating feeling of something tugging at his mind had continued. Some days he would just be found zoned out. Usually someone would have to shake him or shout at him to wake him up from his sudden trance. Today had been exactly the same, he was walking with Sage on his hip, sucking on a teething ring. Asher had been heading to go tend to some conference with Diamond corporations. But he had suddenly stopped right in the middle of the hallway, again slipping into a trance.
Asher couldn't say how long he had stood there before Sage started to scream and then hit him in the face with the teething ring. Blinking he winced a bit as the world came rushing back to him "Ow...Sage, you don't have to hit me." It certainly hadn't been the first time, though young children like her hadn't yet learned to not hit other people when they were highly emotional. Setting Sage down he rubbed at the red mark on his cheek before placing his head in his hand. Closing his eyes a bit as he tried to get his mind right "Mmm, I must have spaced out again. --Always makes me a little sick..."
Sage however was still throwing a bit of a tantrum at his side " Hey! Hey... come on, no need to get that ups- " She took a swipe at him then and told him to shut up " Â Grumpy grumpy, you're definitely partially Darius'." He muttered before kneeling down " Come on, I told Darius to come pick you up so you can do some things he has scheduled with you while I am busy. Don't you want to see Darry?" Asher cooed before his hand was slapped away and the toddler crossed her arms before stomping her feet as she turned away from him and gave a moody little 'no!' with pouty face and all.
Asher rolls his eyes before reaching out to grab her " Well, I'm sorry but 'no' isn't going to make it not hap-" As he was lifting her she started screaming, making him pull away before a spark of fire lashed out of him from the toddler, stinging across the side of his face " Ow!" Asher flinched moving away and cupping a hand over his face. Of course, this was quite clearly Sage's natural born abilities. Someone at the toddlers most recent birthday party had told him and Darius that it had been elemental telekinesis. Which she had definitely inherited from Darius.
Reaching out, Â he suddenly stopped when Sage turned to face him and told him she had said 'no' and that he had better not touch her, and to leave her alone. Her eyes had flashed a brighter brown color as they stared into Asher's eyes, which had reacted by going to empty greenish blue color, making his eyes look clouded. Asher's hands had dropped down then and he gave a sigh, dropping his head, the cloudy look in his eyes gone by then " Okay, okay. I'll just have Darius come to you." For a while now he had been suspicious of something going on that he couldn't quite place.
Over the last year or so especially, it had been making him a bit paranoid. Asher looked around as if some invisible force was watching him and Sage. It was his Cheshire senses, being skittish about things. At least that was what he was pinning it on " Sage, please..." Letting out a breath as the baby sat down he felt a headache beginning to work it's way onto him "Fine. Sage." Sitting down with her he dug into a pocket and pulled out a bracelet with several magic markings on it, turning it over in his hands as Sage babbled on about something.
