My very dumb and painfully true story is that Teen Me had a massive crush on my Lord of the Rings loving friend in high school so I asked to borrow his copy of The Silmarillion so we could talk about it online after school every day because I hadn’t read it yet. Only I didn’t realise he started reading Harry Potter so he could talk to me. We never put it together until college when we were both over each other. (It’s not my favourite of those books, but every time I see a cover I think of this.)
rust this is 🥺🥺🥺🥺 I have a similar story in that when I was 15 my boyfriend had the first Harry Potter book, which I'd never read at that point, but it was his sister's and she wouldn't lend it to me. So on my birthday he bought me Philosophers Stone 😭 Silmarillion isn't my fave Tolkien either BUT when I want to get lost in world building and just middle earth history it's my fave 💕
