100 days until Marathon Monday! I’m honored and excited to be running my fourth consecutive Boston Marathon for the Boston Bulldogs Running Club on Monday, April 15th, 2019. Running with the Bulldogs has had a powerful impact in my own life and their mission to provide an anonymous and safe community of support for all those adversely affected by addiction to promote the importance of wellness and self-leadership in recovery is one I strongly believe in. Wrapping up another rotation around the sun! ☀️ This year brought with it many great experiences along with a fair share of challenges, but every challenge presents an opportunity. 2018 marks my first full year as a professional athlete which has opened up so many doors for me, including a couple of amazing adventures in Europe as one of Salomon’s International “Young Guns.” I experienced magnificent new mountains and trails, returned to a few of my favorite local races, and developed countless new friendships throughout it all. I’ve continued to learn a lot about myself and what makes me tick, along with the important role running plays in my life. What a weekend on which to reflect. Spending 24 hours behind the booth, providing live coverage/commentary, crewing my runner, and cheering on all the others at the Desert Solstice Track Invitational was an extraordinary experience. From witnessing a world record being broken (along with several national and age group records), to interacting with so many amazing runners and their dedicated friends and family who were there to crew them, I left feeling inspired, motivated, and even a bit curious to dip my toe into something like this as well. I definitely felt out of my comfort zone commentating, but I simultaneously really enjoyed it, and I hope everyone who followed along did, too. Thank you @JamilCoury for the opportunity to help! What you do to contribute to the sport is truly incredible! And, the biggest thanks goes to my Boston friend @GSoutiea for letting me tag along and be a part of his trip; I know you didn’t have the race you wanted, but your acceptance of the struggle and your ability to not let it stop you from cheering on everyone else is something to be proud of. Through witnessing others in their highs and in their lows, I learned a lot about myself, as well as this great sport of ultrarunning and the even greater community of people who are a part of it. With a little convincing from @gsoutiea, I’ve decided to head out to Arizona for the Desert Solstice Track Invitational, a 24-hour race held on a 400 meter outdoor track in the heart of Phoenix. Instead of racing, I’ll be crewing and cheering on my close friend Greg Soutiea, as he attempts to qualify for the U.S. National 24 Hour Team!
