Since I am racing a distance I have never done before, I am also doing a training thing I have never done before, which is a Peak TWO Weeks instead of just Peak Week. Here are my next two weeks of runs. Most days that don't include runs instead include stationary biking and/or strength training, and so do half of the run days (not the four biggest; those are run(/hike)-only).
8/17 - 8 miles with tempo intervals
8/20 - 8 miles easy
8/22 - Wildwood Trail, end to end (30 miles)
8/23 - Wildwood Trail, end to end again (opposite direction this time, for variety)
8/25 - 3 miles easy
8/26 - Firelane 1, up and down x4 (17 miles with 5,500 feet of climbing and 5,500 feet of descent #OperationBulletproofQuads) (I am taking a Wednesday off work for this)
8/27 - 3 miles mostly easy, with strides
8/29 - Wildwood Trail through-hike (less impact than running it, more time on feet, can carry all my water in a big pack since I don't have to run with it bouncing around obnoxiously, won't have to make my mom or wife meet me along the way for a refill)
8/30 - actual rest day, lol. Will probably walk a little so my body doesn't lock up
This DOES seem crazy to me, but somehow also seems like something I can absolutely do. And is exhilarating just to think about. I love Just Trying Shit And Seeing What Happens.
Rachel Entrekin averaged 13:20 pace to break the course record by 7 hours—on just 19 minutes of sleep.
Rachel Entrekin made history on Wednesday, winning the Cocodona 250 Mile in a new course record of 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 48 seconds. Entrekin won the race outright—holding off Kilian Korth, who set a men’s course record of 57:28:36—and she became the first woman in the race’s history to win the event overall.
Entrekin, 34, defended her women’s title from 2025 and took over seven hours off her time from last year.
I Escaped from Meriden! And also Cosford, after three years of trying! 45 miles on the ground, though for the race only miles as the crow flies count, with medals at 30, 60 and 90. I made it to 34.
It was not a fun run. The first 15 miles were running and the next 30 were hiking as my knees and feet were increasingly painful. As always I headed out north-west via the A41 from Solihull through Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Albrighton, Cosford and finally Shifnal. Except for all the bits where I had to go around expressways with no pavements. Or floods. There were a bunch of floods. The rain had eased when we started at midnight but not stopped. My waterproofs mostly kept the rain out but the sweat in. There was a moment around 5am when I thought I'd hit a genius plan of drinking espressos instead of Americanos so I'd have to wee less, but I wasn't quite delirious yet and realised that was called dehydration and eventually kidney failure.
Still, I'm pleased with 45 miles. I'd've liked 50, but it was clear my knees wouldn't. At least I finally broke my 30-mile curse. More photos under the cut.
