Tummy tuesday including some gifts from my owner
I've been reflecting a lot about womanhood. Despite me being a man, after spending an unhealthy amount of time on TERFs blogs, I've come to realize how monolithic their definition of woman is. And, hey! I know, I know, TERFs being exclusionist, fork found in the kitchen, but hear me out. I don't think the definition of an adult human female to actually be exclusionist of trans women or intersex women at all. Bear with me. In terms of biology, producing egg cells or bearing young isn't a female only capability (male seahorses bear young, although there isn't a species of male animals who produce matured eggs, thereby trans men typically freeze their eggs before starting HRT). The focus of feminism especially in healthcare for women is not restricted to reproductive rights. The study of endometriosis and period cramps is still ridiculously underdeveloped. It's often talked about how transmisogyny affects cis and intersex women, Implying that prioritizing discussions about gender oppression is only important when it affects cisgender women . But my proposal to the discussion is to take it the opposite direction in terms of women's rights. I truly believe that bringing more advocacy for studies of women's health will also benefit trans and intersex women, and non-binary people.
Because the thing about womanhood is that it's not a monolith. The way a black woman in the USA or Brazil is often treated in comparison to her white folks has been the cause of many deaths for the belief that they are more resistant to pain and often discrimination . Trans and intersex women can have periods (not menstruation, period cycle), trans and intersex women can develop breast cancer, trans and intersex women can have ENDOMETRIOSIS! And yes, trans women who undergo bottom surgery need to go to a gynecologist, because they are female, they have a female body, they need female health care. This is why any feminist movement that doesn't comprehend intersectionality will ultimately doom. Classifying, discriminating, dehumanising, polarizing and persecuting trans women is what TERFs, Anti- LGBTQIA+ organizations and fascist governments do and have done to many other women through history, for not fitting the white, eurocentric definition of womanhood.
