The State Division of Highways offers the following preview for this week’s construction schedule for Interstate 70: Work will continue in Sections A (Wheeling Island to Fulton) and C (Elm Grove) westbound where crossovers are in effect; the daytime closure of the Market Street ramp to I-70 Eastbound will continue through the week; there will be daytime closures (7 a.m.-5 p.m.) of the McColloch Street extension in order to allow for the demolition of the I-70 deck. Alternating traffic patterns will be in effect. Along U.S. Route 40 (National Road), intermittent single lane daytime (Monday thru Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.) closures in the area of the Elm Grove interchange will continue through the week. Motorists are advised to be alert for changing traffic patterns and expect delays. Any questions or concerns regarding the I-70 Bridges Project can be directed to the hotline at (304)810-3214. Generation Wheeling will hold a pub run on Friday, March 20 from 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The event check-in will start at 5:00 pm on the third floor of River City, with the run starting at 5:30 pm. For $30, you'll receive a drink at each stop on your route, as well as a celebratory drink and appetizers at the after-party at River City. The first 200 people who register are guaranteed to receive a commemorative beer stein and headband! If you are not into running or walking in the routes, you can still sign up for the after-party at River City! There will be plenty of good music, beer, and excitement!
Team RWB is organizing a rally that will be held in Bridgeport by the high school on Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. prior to the school board meeting. This is to show support for the WWII veteran who owns the property the BOE wants to seize via eminent domain for a football stadium. On said property, he has developed several business services serving the local community. All are encouraged to attend to show support for this veteran.
West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) will be hosting a diversity and inclusion event on their Wheeling Campus on Tuesday, February 25 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Catharsis Productions will give a presentation, “Say What?!” on creating welcoming and safe places as well as encouraging open and respectful dialogue. The event is free and open to the public. Lunch will also be included. Anyone interested in attending must RSVP by Wednesday, February 19. Chick-fil-a at The Highlands is scheduled to open on Feb. 27, and the first 100 people over the age of 18 will receive free food for an entire year. The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Feb. 26 with a “camp out,” and the new eatery will open at 6:30 a.m.
