I requested today off during our 2020 vacation time bid...and I didn’t get it.

I then put myself on the waitlist to have today off…and I didn’t get it. 

So I show up to work this morning, and they are overstaffed so they sent me home.

Not helpful. The reason I requested off today was so I could go to the race in person. (I live in Orlando and it’s like an hour drive.)

But now I learned that the orange faced screaming baby will be attending the race today.

So I am torn between being angry at my job for being assholes when it comes to approving vacation time and relieved that I did not end up in the same venue as the child that resides in the White House. 

Now let me explain you a thing:

People always stereotype NASCAR as the redneck ‘MERICA drunks that are his base...but no. Those people are there, but every family has its shitty members. Now that he’s showing his face, that’s exactly the vibe he’ll create.

Attending a race is kinda like going to a fan convention. We’re all there to watch a race. You can boo the drivers you hate and cheer your driver, but the fans won’t actively throw shade at each other because we’re all here to watch a race and have a good time. A NASCAR race is the personification of Southern Hospitality. And BOYB (sans glass) means that everyone is happily tipsy as well.

There are few modern events that can track it’s history so far back. The Daytona 500 has its roots in the bootleggers of prohibition. While auto racing is international, the Daytona 500 is a event that showcases American history. So when NASCAR fans are seen as being patriotic, it’s respect for our history. 

I think America has a huge potential to be great. But I firmly believe that this administration is making it worse. There have been other sitting Presidents to attend the Daytona 500, I don’t have an issue with that. It’s the fact that knowing this so-called president and how he will use this as a chance to flaunt how he skirted the law that will take away the good vibes of the race for the fans.
