Flufftober Day 19: Keeping Someone Safe
This one is for @echoing--stars who lets me steal their oc blorbo Rowan so I can play with him like a Barbie doll. I've put him into the LU Pokemon AU, so here's a little piece featuring his partner Fidough and her one-sided rivalry with Time
Bidoof circled Time’s legs before snorting and wandering away. "He's a bit of a grump," Rowan mumbled as they watched him go back to the bedroom. He gestured to the living room. "And over there is Fidough."
The tiniest Fidough he’d ever seen stared at him from her perch on the couch, having perked up from her nap upon hearing her name. He smiled, laughing at how quickly she went from looking vaguely disgruntled to extremely alert in less than a second. She yipped, launching off the couch and running directly at him, going so fast that she slammed into his shin. She bounced back, shaking her head before looking up at him and barking urgently.
"She's always been very insistent on being the center of attention," Warriors chuckled, kneeling down. He held out a hand and she immediately zipped to his side, drinking in the pets and attention he gave her.
"He's her favorite," Rowan whispered, as if it were a terrible secret. "She loves watching all those Elite Four battles that get televised. I think she thinks she’s battling too.”
Time laughed as she barked at him again. “She seems to think she’s tough enough for it.”
“Oh, she’s absolutely ferocious,” Warriors praised with a wink. “The toughest pokemon in the region.” She preened under his attention and praise, and Warriors cooed at her some more.
“Why don’t you come in?” Rowan offered, stepping into the rest of the apartment. “Didn’t mean to keep you cornered in the entryway. Want anything to drink?”
Fidough loved the couch. It always had her favorite blanket tucked just the way she wanted it, creating the perfect nest for her nap. Rowan and Warriors had been out for the morning, which meant there was no one to disturb her while she relaxed.
The door clicked open, and the sound of footsteps on the stairs had her ear twitch, pulling her out of the depths of sleep. Not enough to truly wake her, but she could hear that her people were home. She rolled over, snuggling deeper into her blanket, not quite ready to get up yet.
Until she heard her name.
She groaned, letting out a yawn as she pushed herself up. Maybe they were talking about giving her a poképuff. Warriors always gave her one when he visited. She shook her head and glanced in the direction of the doorway, but what she saw snapped her awake instantly.
Rowan and Warriors were there, but a third man stood with him. A man she recognized all too well.
She yelped, launching herself off the couch. How dare he! After everything he’d done to Warriors and his team when they disappeared into the glowing box! How dare he show up in her house! She would protect Warriors!
Fidough rammed directly into his leg, tumbling back at the force that she hit him with. That should’ve hurt, but when she looked up at him, he was smiling, laughing even! The audacity! She barked, demanding him to leave, show some respect, watch out because if he dared step any further into her house she’d charge at him again. But he didn’t seem to care about her threats.
Warriors knelt down, holding his hand out to her and she immediately ran to his side. He was asking for her to protect him, she knew it. She planted herself between him and the man, glaring at him while Warriors showered her with praise and pets. She was so good at her job. Rowan said something to the man, and Fidough hoped he was telling him to leave, but to her horror, he stepped further into her house. She barked, trying to warn Rowan, but Warriors picked her up and followed them. She burrowed angrily into his arms. She’ll just have to keep an eye on him from now on.
