even other people i know have pointed out how strange it is that they are taking a break during such a serious matter.

but i think that episode targets kids with anxiety specially. yes, if the world really was about to end that probably wouldn’t be the time for a break but we sometimes forget that although the plot is amazing, the show, at its core, is targeted mainly towards children. it does seem strange to us but for a child developing worrries, the focus of that episode is Steven being able to relax and take care of himself, even when it feels like the world is going to end. because when you’re anxious- and especially when you’re younger and quite literally have no better perspective- it feels like terrible things could happen as a consequence to actions, or inactions. but the show is trying to help them realize that it’s okay to slow down and take a breath for a moment, to smell the roses, remember not just the positives but the balance there is to everything (“life and death”).

it’s showing kids that there are other things going on in the world, good and bad, and that their current problem might not be the be-all-end-all that they worked it up to in their heads.

am i doing my nails for the third time just because i didn’t like how they came out the first two times? yes.

have i still not packed my bag or cleaned my room tonight? yes.
