(The wicker basket is not actually hovering over the seller. It’s the lady in the background that is carrying it over her head. Women from the countryside especially had this habit, because it actually makes it easier to carry something heavy during a long period of time.)

With the addition of garlic and rosemary, this slow cooker recipe turns chestnuts into a tasty treat. Great for cozy nights in or holiday get-togethers.

Ingredients: 2 lbs chestnuts. 1/4 cup olive oil. 2 tsp salt. 1 tsp black pepper. 2 sprigs fresh rosemary. 4 cloves garlic, minced.

Instructions: Score an 'X' on the flat side of each chestnut. Place the chestnuts in the slow cooker. Drizzle olive oil over the chestnuts. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and minced garlic. Toss to coat evenly. Add fresh rosemary sprigs. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or until chestnuts are tender. Once cooked, remove from slow cooker and let cool slightly before serving.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 240 minutes
