Here I’m in my short sleeved summer robe (my long sleeved robe would have been better on this chilly occasion). The tabard with the druid sigil is part of Oakdale Grove’s new uniforms, as is the green mantle on my shoulders, which doubles as a hood. In the RDNA there are very few rules on ritual garb. Official vestments of the higher levels of the priesthood are lightly regulated though.
The badges of office in the RDNA are sometimes referred to as ribbons of office because originally they were just ribbons draped over the shoulders. That’s great for any Reformed Druid priest on a budget. In my situation, I prefer heavier vestments that are less likely to blow away in the wind.
I am a Third Order Druid, which is also called the Order of Dalon Ap Landu. It is the first level of the priesthood in the RDNA. Most clergy in the RDNA stay in the 3rd Order, and about 13% will enter the higher orders. Third Order Druids wear a red ribbon in the summer and a white ribbon in the winter. For our vernal equinox ritual, for some reason I left mine at home.
I am also in the Order of Belenos, signified by my yellow Masonic style collarette suspending a sun-face pendant. Belenos is a Gaulish solar healing deity which is indicative of the purpose of the Order. It is fitting to wear it on solar Wheel of the Year high days.
Additionally, I m in the Order of Sirona, signified by the two-tone blue ribbon. Sirona is a Gaulish goddess of healing waters. I’m also the second elected patriarch of the Order of Sirona, therefore I usually wear the vestments of this order.
There’s a rule that permits matriarchs and patriarchs (gender neutral: Atriarch) of the higher orders to wear black robes, but there’s an additional rule that if you choose to wear badges of office of multiple higher orders at the same time, you must not wear a black robe, otherwise it could confuse people which order you are Atriarch of. Furthermore you can’t be an Atriarch of more than one higher order. So on this occasion, as a priest in the Orders of Belenos and of Sirona, I wanted to wear both regalia, so I left my chimere at home.
