Found these rocks, can someone tell me what they are???
Hey gobs and anyone else looking at this post, I found these stones today while waking my doggo. I'd seen three buried in the dirt next to the entrance to a private road before and I tried digging them out with my nails but they were in too deep, however, today was my lucky day! We were a good 10-15 minute walk away from where I had seen the other stones, and in some gravel on a track leading to a field and more private residences I found these two!! The rain had washed away almost all the dirt on and around them, so all I had to do was scrabble at the packed-in gravel until they came loose (I was going to wash them in the stream but the way down to it was slippy and steep and I didn't want my pup to fall in so I just stuck them in my pocket)
Once I got them home I had to rush out to meet my friends so I left them on the kitchen table where the dirt still left on them kinda hardened and got stuck. I took these pics just now after washing them and patting them dry with a paper towel, however I think they could do with another wash or two :/ tell me what you think!!
Anyways my main question was; what are they??? I know it's not lapis cause that's mostly found in Afghanistan and I'm in Yorkshire, England (Also I compared it to a lapis bracelet I had and the colours were too different). It could be blue hole agate from what I saw as it can be found in my country and they have a similar ripple pattern, however agate is really shiny and crystalline it seems and this is matte and just,,, rocky.. the smaller stone looks a little bit crystally but not really.. I'm really perplexed and curious, so are there any geologists, stone experts or just knowledgeable gobs who could help me? Any messages of what this could be are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!
Edit: just realised the size might come in handy! The bigger one is about 4cmx4cmx1.5cm and the small one is more rounded but it's about 2cm in all directions ^_^
Update!!! I found out what these are!! It's called blue slag glass, which sounds like an insult, but really it's just a byproduct of smelting iron. Where I live has a history of iron works and other industry, so this stuff happens when iron, sand and rock are smelted together in the furnace and I believe it would have been poured off afterwards, so that's why I've found it. I'll post pictures of the other stuff I've found too, Cause I found a lump of the stuff the size of my fist and a few other pretty bits, I can't post it rn though cause I'm at the dentists :) look for another update soon!
