#reposting issue

Hello! I found your post on the Internet about Imgrum. They should be consider illegal.

They reposted all my pictures without consent and I had to change MY NAME, MY WEBSITE’S NAME AND MY SOCIAL MEDIA’S NAMES to not be associated with these motherfuckers. I didn’t find any way to truly contact them. It’s been exhausting. I am the owner of all the images. I’m a professional photographer with 9 years of experience. Sometimes when I was in LA I modeled, and fucking Imgrum reposted all of those pictures.

Hello Renee. I’m very sorry for the late reply. I’ve been in college and my mods are very busy as well, so right now I’ll do my best to help you with your problem. 

Unfortunately, Imgrum is like a view page for Instagram. I’d tried my best to take a look on each of the photos you’ve sent to me, examining each of the options, settings, functions featured in Imgrum, but so far, the least I can do is to return page. 

But! Don’t get discourage. Since Imgrum is basically an online viewer for Instagram, you can easily find the user who infringed your works there, report them or contact the user. We even have a how to report with IG in our archives. Here’s the link to it.

Sorry for being dead for a while, and I’m sorry to inform you that I will be on hiatus for the next couple of months again, so I’ll try anything I can to help anyone at the time being. Now, I don’t want to bother you too much about apologies and unnecessary updates about my life nor the lives of the other mods, so let’s get right into the topic.

Let’s take a break from the witch-hunt and rages about the stolen works. I’d like to point out the shallow part of art thievery; that is reposting works and art thieves. I’ve been seeing confusion about reposters and art thieves but did you know that reposting is not really all that bad?

Reposting is a pretty vague area. It’s not really a black and white kind of topic, moreover people seemed to get confused about it. Reposting has good and bad sides.

A ‘good’ reposter would;

1. Ask for permission for reposting the content.

2. Credit the content properly (with links and directed source).

3. NOT taking credit for the work.

4. Show or provide evidences of the given permission (although this is optional, it can prevent future disputes and dramas)

A ‘bad’ reposter would;

1. Not ask for permission.

2. Not crediting a work properly. (’Credits to the owners’, ‘Not mine’, ‘Not by me’, ‘Source; G**gle/Unknown’ are not legit credits you ding dong)

3. Plagiarising a or multiple works.

4. Repost without any second thoughts about the creator whatsoever.

Now, to put it bluntly, art thieving is pretty much plagiarising a work that’s not yours and, as we all know it, is bad. Tracing, copying, stealing, eye-balling, plagiarising, reposting without permission or credits are all form of art thefts, and saying G**gle is a source is incorrect. It’s a search engine. Not someone’s account (unless it’s Google+).

This is how my conversation with a reposter goes. As you can already tell, they don’t know much about art theft and its consequences.

Okay. First of all, whether the work is being claimed or not, it is still an art theft. It is no different than stealing a canvas from a museum.

To make it simpler, let’s imagine a scenario. An art thief stole a work from a local museum, and succeeded. They then sell the work, pass it around to gain money. Then, one day, someone asked; “I love this work! Who made this?”

The thief then say; “I don’t know. Does it even really matter?”

Okay, now let’s put it on a virtual perspective; One day, a reposter found a certain work through Google Image Search. They think it is pretty so they posted it on their social media. Then someone left a comment, “I love this! Who made it?”

Then, the reposter reply; “I don’t know. I found it on Google. Does it even really matter?”

See the differences? No. There’s no difference.

You are still an art theif even though you did not claim it as yours. No matter what kind of definition you use (Urban dictionary for example), it is no different.

Look, these people only asked for permission. What they did is no simple thing. Do I really need to explain how much time they spent on a single drawing? Do I really need to explain that what they drew is not just a picture? Do I really need to tell about the price of a single tablet? How much money these creators have to spend to make these pictures? They just wanted a permission!

If you don’t have a twitter or tumblr, make one up your own that is specifically made to ask for permission. If you have the time and internet to upload a repost, then you can spare a few seconds to make an account.

I have made multiple accounts just to stop this problem. I have sacrificed my studies, relationship, money, time, sleep, health and internet just to help you. Don’t EVER think you have no time to ask the creators for permission.

Can someone please link this to them? Instagram is being hard on me and that little thief needs to learn something.

Due to the many recent art thefts that has been going on for eternity on many recognizable websites (Tumblr, Twitter, IG etc), we are on a search for more mods to help us! While we’re looking for one, we still need to put up some requirements. Don’t worry. You don’t need your parents’ permission to join us. We just need you to;

be able to converse in more than one language. (Optional)

have commitment on helping. 

be able to converse maturely and respectively with the reposters and creators.

have enough knowledge about copyrights violation.

If you can’t always be online, that’s okay! This problem is, no doubt, tiring, so it’s fine to take a break. However, please consider that this problem isn’t going to solve itself. Just because one reposter is being taken down, doesn’t mean there aren’t a million more.

Well, I guess that’s about it. Oh, one more thing; you can also have your very own cool Mod nickname! It’ll be like a cute badge you wear on your sash or shirt, except virtually.

Please consider this. I’m tired of looking through an artist’s text post, saying how disappointed they are and how much they are considering to close down their accounts, and I’m sure they’re feeling tem times worse than we are. I can’t even deal with reposters on IG without having to speak like I’m talking to a 5 y/o. And Pinterest users are deleting my asks to take their reposts down. Please, please take this into consideration.

Jeez... Sites like these are ruining images. Especially since they put their own signature on a STOLEN WORK. Anyway, let’s get to work!

PS - You can file a report even if you’re not the artist! So please spare a few seconds of your time to write a report if you’d recognized the stolen works.

PSS - But please be sure to consult the reposter first. Do not harass or bully them for it. And if you’ve been blocked, we have a way to get pass that as well.

1. Like any other sites, look for those three vertical dots and click on them. You will be given a choice whether to share or report it. In this case, click on ‘Report’.

2. You will be brought straight to the report form and you will have to fill in your information and the issue at hand.

3. And once you’re finished, click ‘Submit’!
