Redubs
Redubs. When you have dubbed a movie multiple times.
Lots of countries have dubbed especially Disney films multiple times.
In USA, when watching Pinocchio you hear a now dead childs voice from the 1940s
Well,
In swedish there is a little boy’s voice too. But that voice is from the 90s (that boy also voiced Simba and Flounder for the TV-version of The little mermaid and I swear he was the only child voice actor they had). Before that redub, there was an old woman that did the voice of Pinocchio. That old version can only be found if you have a really old VHS of that film.
Also, Bambi and all the animal children was first dubbed by a series of women in their 20s in swedish, but in the 80s they redubbed it with actual children. I am starting to wonder if children weren’t allowed to act in 1940s Sweden?? Not that voice acting even was a thing back then, but still.
Cinderella was apparently redubbed in the 60s, so the older dub is impossible to find.
The most interesting dub is Oliver and Company, because I am not joking when I say that the old dub in swedish was actually better. I haven’t seen all of it, because I grew up with the second dub, but I have seen the songs and some small dialouge in the original.
What happened to Oliver and Company you might wonder? Well, some of the voice actors wanted to get payed more for their job, and the dubbing studio refused, and to ”show who’s boss” they redubbed the entire thing in the 90s. But, like many old dubs, the older dub of Oliver and Company was accidentally sent out to VHS, until they found out their mistake and had to return copies from stores.
One of the few films that hasn’t been dubbed twice in swedish is Aristocats. Which I like, because this was the time when they started to let children dub (finally!) and 70s kids have a special kind of style when they act and it’s funny.
What if TV shows in America got dubs for each region the show is aired
Like imagine a deep, deep southern dub of Steven Universe
“You are so very Sad”- Wally Dub
I just saw an old multilanguage video of the reprise of Why should I worry from Oliver and Company. You can see it here, because it’s honestly very good. I have some notes:
I like how in the french version, there’s a part where they just go ”EEEEEEEEEH”
The COMPLETE GLOWUP from the old hungarian dub to the new hungarian dub. Holy shit
The old dub is a bit funny, because they kind of scream the lyrics and you can hear someone breathing loudly in the beginning. Almost so bad it’s good.
But the new hungarian dub, holy shit. I almost get the chills from it. It’s GLORIOUS
Also why did the new swedish dub just take the norwegian goodbye from Jenny?? Couldn’t the new voice actor for her be there when they said goodbye?? Or what???
Like I can rant about the new swedish dub forever. They only redubbed it because some voice actor/s wanted more money for dubbing the film, so to ”show who’s boss” the dubbing company just redubbed everything.
But the old swedish dub put much more effort into the voices, ESPECIALLY in the songs. I can give that the speaking parts of the new swedish dub was pretty decent, but SONGS GOES TO THE OLD
There were one or two languages where it sounded like you could hear the original english underneath
What I like about this too is that every language adds Jenny’s goodbye. You can hear which languages just took some adult woman doing kids voices and which languages brought an actual kid
Also, there was one version, I don’t remember which, where you didn’t hear the music much but the voices pretty clear, kind of like you would hear in a fandub. The singer was good, but it reminded me of someone doing a cover of the song rather than the actual dub.
The romanian version is very good too! I like the way he sings ”aaah”. It feels soft in a way
And here I dare say, the ENGLISH VERSION actually sounds a bit like an adult speaking in a kids voice. Idk, I have probably seen too many of english 80s kids voices in cartoons that I just... associated them? I guess?
The latin spanish dub is very good too! They really put all their energy as they are singing ”quiero”, and it sounds awesome
There’s a lot of gold in the video. Watch it.

Finally got around to watching the the re-dubs of Evangelion (first couple episodes no opinion yet) and decided to go looking for prices for the original dubs and I came across this. Your looking at that right, its Walmart selling the “perfect” collection for $525.83. BUT WAIT, it’s not Walmart selling it. It is a third party selling it through Walmart.Â
First, price - usual fuck you pricing, whatever
Second, Perfect Collection - I’m so used to seeing only single dvd’s of the platinum version that I forgot this even existed or that anyone would even want to sell it if they’ve held it for this long
Third, Walmart - Not Amazon, Not Ebay, Not some random message board, Not an anime convention, but fucking Walmart I mean really? Surely there is a better way to unload this back into the world if they are actually looking to sell this
Fourth and finally, - Anyone can sell shit on Walmart, am I the only one who didn’t know any old schmuck can sell stuff through Walmart’s website. I feel like there’s this whole sub economy on walmart.com that I never knew about wtf
