Robe Volante, flying dress, 1730. This is one of only four dresses known to still exist of this style. It sold at auction at a record setting $150,000 for an 18th century piece. It went to the Palais Galliera collection in France. Made of yellow silk damask with silver and green thread, lined in yellow taffeta. "The sweatpants of its day for courtiers, the style was a rebellion against the elaborate, corseted dresses of Louis XIV's court" 😂. Quote from Smithsonian magazine, they have a very good article on it here is the url http://bit.ly/2CInTIM . There is also a question of who it belonged to, the king's mistress or the wife of a French ambassador. The Palais did their own press release of the aquisition which you can read here http://bit.ly/2CFJtgS I love a piece with a good story!
